dear randy, please fire lil mama, love the abdc community

let's kick things off with the positive first......

fanny pack is insane!!! say what?!!!! by far the best of the night. i was on my feet yelling by the end of their routine. it was for real something straight out of a missy video. so creative. so on the money. who would've thought this group would go so far and just blow everyone away like this. wow. i seriously voted for them like 20 times tonight!

but....

super crew! they also had a great routine! what a perfect song for these guys. watching their routine the first time through, i enjoyed the end half more than the beginning. but watching it again on the repeat, it was actually really well performed and well choreographed start to finish. just little things like when they popped their bodies out (off a handstand, mind you!) when missy goes "OH!" in the lyrics or dangling one of their guys off the stage at the very end - just super duper entertaining shit.

ok now let's get to the boogie bots.......

there is no question or doubt that instead of supreme soul bouncing last week, it really should have been the boogie bots. in a fair, all is right kind of world, that's what should have happened. but the votes just didn't go that way. when ss left, unfortunately boogie became public enemy #1 and everyone hopped on the hater train. even the judges. it really was difficult to see the judges come down THAT hard on them tonight. even shane was borderline malicious, almost like he was taking his frustrations of not seeing ss in the final four out on the bots, which just isn't fair to them. yes, their routine wasn't clean, wasn't as solid as it should be, but damn, to get bashed so hard like that, you could just see their spirits being crushed right in front of you on tv - no crew deserves that.

and fuck lil mama. for real. her comments never have any merit. and there was no reason for her to call out the bots like she did last week. yeah it sucked that ss and super crew were in the bottom last week, but as a judge, you can't be calling out other crews like that in such a negative way, especially when they aren't even on stage! this needs to be her last season as a judge.

but back onto a positive note. vote for fanny pack. vote for super crew. can't wait for next week - all about the 80's!!!

quickies

so abdc's on tonight and it's missy-focused. and supreme's out. which sucks. because they would've put together a kick ass routine. seriously sucks that they're dunzo. i think boogie and fanny are on the chopping block. remember, don't go to mtv's abdc blog tonight if you don't wanna spoil the elimination for yourself. you've been warned!

movies i wanna see -
- the wackness
- pineapple express
- sisterhood of the travelling pants 2 - is it bad that i really wanna see this? :-)

totally over -
- miley cyrus. did you see that youtube vid she made making fun of the wizards of waverly place girl? miley vs. selina (rumored to be fighting over a jonas brother) is the new lindsay vs. hilary (they fought over aaron carter of all people. gag). ok, why do i know so much about disney feuds? seriously.

albums coming down the pipe that i'm excited about -
- robin thicke
- ne-yo

shows premiering soon, also pretty excited about -
- the hills! woo hoo! love/hate relationship with this show, as always.
- making the band. yay for laurie ann's return!!
- i wanna work for diddy (i think that's the title)

shows currently watching that i've been surprisingly entertained by -
- i love money (go stallionaires! and for some reason, i heart whiteboy. haha!)
- from g's to gents (still trying to catch up on this one, but kinda funny so far)
- wipeout (definitely nowhere close on the funny meter to spike's MXC, but still love seeing a good, painful wipeout).

fave shows besides abdc -
- run's house! it took a little while for this show to grow on me, but now i totally love it!
- my boys (on tbs). love love this show. great cast, great writing.

show that needs to be yanked quick -
- buzzin

recent cd/dvd purchases -
- jason mraz
- santogold
- my-so called life season 1 dvd (unfortch the show never made it past season 1. one of the great tragedies of my adolescent youth).

next handbag on my radar -
- semi-slouchy hobo in either brown (super dark, deep brown) or a lighter tan/camel color. will have to wait for the fall lines to hit stores. seen some around but they've been too boho w/ the fringe detailing or vintage embellishments.

ABDC OMFG

(*pic courtesy of mtv abdc blog)

Where do I even start with the ABDC post?

First things first. Supreme Soul vs. Super Cr3w in the bottom 2? And they both killed it, by far the best two routines of the show, yet they're in the bottom 2? That's just wrong! I can understand if maybe one of them just didn't perform up to par, but when both crews give a great performance like that, it really sucks to see one go home. The Bay gets no love.  I would've hated to be in the judges' position for that decision. But what's done is done.

Oh and by the way, I was stupid enough to log onto mtv's abdc blog a few hours before the show and their stupid bloggers totally spoiled the elimination for me!  I get onto the page and the first line I read is "Think you were pissy that Supreme Soul got booted off ABDC tonight?" Say what! Stupid east coast bloggers jumpin the gun on the news! Don't you realize the west coast hasn't seen the show at 8PM PST, 11PM EST? Damn!!

Onto the good news!  ABDC is hittin the road and going on tour! Yeah! So far the only two crews announced are Jabbawockeez and BreakSk8 (breaksk8 sucks!). Keep your fingers crossed that SS will be included on the bill.

OCTOBER 11 - Oakland, CA - LET'S GO!!

Track of the Moment

"Need You Bad" by Jazmine Sullivan

This is my song right now!!!!!!! Damn!  Everything about this song is right. Great hook, great melody, great lyrics. It's got this island/reggae feel to it, especially in the beginning, but then going into the chorus it just switches gears and goes into this soulful, yearning emotion as she sings "baby i need you bad, what i gotta do, i need you, do it all for you."

Another separate note: I really hate that I'm kinda liking some of these Shwayze songs coming through. I mean I was okay with liking "Buzzin" when it came out earlier this year, but I'm just so anti-Cisco Adler because he's just too skeezy.  But then I hear a catchy track like "Don't be Shy" and I just can't help but like the damn tune! I know, don't hate me for my sometimes questionable music choices!  haha! :-)

Dont Be Shy - Shwayze

Commercial of the Day

Converse's marketing team has been doing a great job of putting the brand out there in the public lately. Paired up with Target to widen the distro of their kicks to the masses nationwide. And now they've paired up with some of the music scene's most buzzworthy artists for their new tv spot.  That's Pharrell, Julian Casablancas (of the Strokes), and Santogold. Go to converse.com to peep the whole music video.  Other artists they're featuring on their site: MGMT, Does it Offend You Yeah?, and KidSister (yeah! that's my girl!).

The song itself caught my attention in an instant.  Very catchy, very much what you'd expect to hear from an avid converse wearer. Very much on my ipod playlist.  :-) And you just gotta love a creative video like that. Go Converse!

On a separate, semi-related note, props to Target's retail and marketing teams for partnering with some great brands and designers over the last few years.  There was Rogan just recently, and Jovovich-Hawk a few months back. But the most exciting (for me, at least) has definitely been Botkier's newly released line (in stores now!). And this happens just after the Gryson for Target line just wrapped up last month!  Back to back quality handbag designers for the bullseye?  A budget bagaholic shopper's dream come true!

getcha groove(e) on!

the marc by marc jacobs dr q groovee satchel. loves it!

happy marc jacobs week! no, it's not the anniversary of the fabulous brand. on monday i got my wonderful, gorgeous, and apparently uber-coveted mj bag at the fillmore store!! and my friends, i just couldn't be any happier. simply marvelous this bag is. did i ever mention what a bag fiend i am? oh just you wait and see!

so, about the groovee. i didn't even know this style existed until i walked into the marc store one friday after work. my initial intent was to find a cute clutch for vegas (again, stay tuned for the recap). as i'm at the glass counter, drooling over all the pretty little purses and accessories, i get to chattin with the sales guy. we're talking about how grey is THE color of the spring/summer season and how it's gonna remain a key color for the fall. this was so my type of convo, you don't even understand. so then he points me to the wall of bags along the back and says most of those come in the grey color that we've both been raving about. and then the clouds parted and he showed me the groovee bag. now keep in mind if the display bag of this particular style was in grey, i would've noticed it in an instant. but i guess my eyes passed over it a little too quickly because the display bag was purple (as pictured above). but the minute i (re-) saw it and (re-) looked at the details/design, i just knew. I HAD TO HAVE IT. not only because it was so well made but also because it looked almost exactly like the miu miu vitello lux bag that i've been coveting for the last year!!! the only slight details missing from the marc design were the cute little bows on each side of the bag and the zipper placement. but other than that, it's perfect!

the miu miu vitello lux satchell. loves it!

so i ask my new bff, do you have one in stock in grey? my heart beat has seriously doubled in pace at this point. he goes to check his computer and comes back with a slightly sad slightly smirkish expression on his face. so i really have no idea what to expect. bad news - no grey in sf. good news - there's one last one in la! so i tell him to ship that puppy over stat! he takes down my info and tells me he's gonna call me the second it arrives at the store. sweet!

so a couple days go by and no word from my bff. then next thing i know i'm scrambling to get things done before leaving town. then shit, i'm actually in vegas and still no groovee. so i decide to call around to see if there's a marc by marc store in town, perhaps at the caesars forum shops. i call the marc store (which is an actual marc jacobs store, not the sub brand. have i totally lost you yet? haha!) and they tell me they're completely out of stock across the us except for the one in san francisco (because the color is a seasonal and won't be offered in the fall, at least for my particular bag that is). so i start freaking out. wait, my bag's in sf? why didn't i get a call? did they sell it off because i never came by to pick it up? i get on the phone with the sf store and luckily my bff happens to be working that day. he explains that my bag is safe and sound and that he was actually off work during that whole week, hence the no-call. big sigh of relief. then he adds that not only does he have it in sf, and not only is it the last one across the country, but it's also brand spankin new and never been opened! score! p.s. i have to add that i've also got a complex about getting the brand new never been touched bags and not the display ones, so this is even more exciting news. i know! i'm totally crazy.

so i tell him, monday, it's a date. i'll be there. protect that bag with your life. fast forward through vegas, fast forward through work that monday, and there i am, at the marc by marc jacobs store on fillmore and sacramento, standing at the counter, watching the manager on duty unwrap all the packing paper, plastic and tape from the bag (my bff was unfortunately off that day for a last minute emergency). she does the official hand off to me to inspect the bag, try it on, whatever i like. perfection. smiling ear to ear. wrap that baby up in its cloth duster and ring me up!! i swear i had a little hop, skip and a bounce to my step as i exited the store. right before i left i told the manager all about the wonderful work my bff did to secure the bag for me. hopefully he gets a raise or something for his fine salesmanship efforts. probably not, but a gal can wish. if anything i hope he feels good inside knowing he helped a bag obsessed girl like me get (one of) the bag(s) of her dreams. until we meet again for the release of the fall bags, my bff!

the end.

Lesson of the Day

Ladies, don't wear a flowy top on days when it's slightly windy out. Walked over to Il Fornaio today to grab some lunch and a big gust came through. Shirt up in my face. Not a pretty picture. Luckily there was only some tourist guy across the street. Taking pictures of the Plaza behind me! DAMN!

3 outfits in 2 hours?

finding 3 head to toe outfits for vegas in 2 hours? can it be done?

my friends........yes it can!

god love stonestown galleria, sf!

so check this out. i'm leaving for vegas tomorrow right? flight departs at 8:45pm and i still gots work all day, so i have zero time to get any sort of shopping done thur (yes, i always wait until the last minute, so sue me). the search for outfits actually began on sunday when shopping with my two fave gal pals as part of my bday brunch outing. which reminds me, i never posted about my bday did i? will have to come back to that later.

anyway, no luck on sunday, monday shopping was a bust (plans just fell through), and i found only casual outfits on tue when i hit up a few stores after work. so that leaves wed as my last and final day to find some fabulous ensemble to rock in sin city.

after a quick demo/intro/meeting with a potential dj instructor after work today (wow, i need to blog about that too! damn, hard to keep up!), i rushed over to stonestown to try and find something, anything, to wear.

1st stop - h&m
found a bunch of cute casual tops and one top that could work if i dress it up w/ jewelry. so i head to the jewelry section. jackpot. tons of necklaces. layered a few pieces over the top and voila. add my skinny black jeans, either ankle boots or heels and i'm done. outfit #1 complete.

stop #2 - express
i really didn't think i'd find anything here, but just had to check. after a brief convo with the fabulous worker who explained the sizing of the tops/dresses for the store (by far the most courteous and HELPFUL sales associate that i have ever dealt with), i just started grabbing stuff left and right. people, i never find anything at express. of the 6 pieces that i pulled. 3 fit just right and 1 was just a tad small but bearable. 4 out of 6! what are the odds! so i ended up buying 3 tops just because i loved how all of them fit and looked. add this to the h&m top and now i've got 1 more than i actually needed. which is perfect because you gotta have that backup just in case.

stop #3 - macy's
just because i had a half hour before the stores closed, i decided to hit up macy's just to see if they had any good shoes. this is actually the one area i was still lacking in choices. got the clothes, the jewelry, even the handbag/clutch. but just needed a pair of updated shoes. so i'm walking through the shoe department, nothing's catching my eye, until i hit the last table of nine west shoes. open toe, patent, two straps going across foot w/ another strap connecting the two, slip on, decent heel. i try on the display, which happens to be an 8.5, my size (i know, i have huge feet for my height). i look down at my feet and low and behold we have a winner! and they're on sale! what the hell? seriously, this all never happens to me! i head to the register, they ring me up, and i bust out my gift card to pay! wahoo!

so there you have it. my adventures in rush shopping. i'm so relieved now that i have my outfits squared away. i'll let you know how they all work out when i get to LV!

I *heart* ABDC

it wasn't until earlier today when i was emailing back and forth with someone (during work - i'm such a slacker these days) that i realized just how obsessed i am with america's best dance crew. i can't even tell you how much i look forward to thursday nights at 10pm. i watch all the repeats of past episodes. i vote. i watch my fave routines again and again online (to date, some faves include: Supreme Soul's "touch", Super Crew's "we fly high", asiid's "whatever u like", and fanny pack's "touch my body"). i check mtv's blog for the show regularly (will post the link at end of this post). and of course, now i'm blogging about it here!

super bummed that i'll be missing tomorrow night's episode, especially since they're doing all janet jackson routines!  so exciting!  i'll actually be on a plane to vegas for my belated birthday celebration weekend during the time of the show.  so i guess i'm missing it for a worthy cause. haha!!  but i'll be looking for it on replay this weekend in between party times when chilling in the hotel room! :-)

here are just a couple of ABDC links for ya -

Invisible Stripes (these guys are the local SF shop that produces all the gear that you see Supreme Soul rockin on stage)

will post more soon.  these are just the two i check most often.

oh and in case you're wondering, these are my top faves -

fanny pack (loved them from the beginning!)
supreme soul (when their routines are nice and clean and smooth. again, referring back to that "touch" routine i love so much)
super crew (it's hard not to like these guys.  they're faves by default of association w/ the jabbawockeez!)

who do i want to win it all?  still unsure.  we'll just have to keep watching each week and see!

gotta pack. vegas here i come!

Super Bummer of the Day

So as we all know it's my birthday tomorrow (yay!!). And if you know me, then who of all people would I love to have DJ at my birthday bash? That's right, DJ frikkin AM. So check out this bullsh*t........

These last couple of years, I have been wishing and hoping that he'd be in SF around the time of my birthday so I could just hit up that spot with my friends and celebrate le birth de moi over there. Easy enough right? A guaranteed good time to be had by all because AM would be behind the one's and two's. Right? So I checked up on the myspace notices, the blogs, etc etc to see where he'd be spinning next. Seriously, if it was any date in the month of July, then that'd be close enough for me.

Yeah, am I crazy much? Ok I know the red stalker flags are waving all over the place right now, but seriously, the root of the obsessive behavior comes from the need to have the best music possible playing on my birthday and I know he'd bring it. So there. :-)

Anyway, so these last few years, no luck. But.......

The ONE year I decide not to go out drinking and dancing on my birthday (primarily due to physical, mostly bronchial, limitations), what happens? You guessed it. The man is in mothereffin SF.  Peep the flyer -

So not fair! Just got this notice today in my email and checked his myspace shortly after and there it is.....July 11, San Francisco. Just one day shy of my birthday. Sadness.

It just wasn't meant to be, my friends.

Damn you, cough!

July 9, 2008

ailment of the day: the super cough

i'm sick. again. i've been sick for the last few days. actually i've had this uber terrible cough since sunday, thanks to my precious little nephew. he was sick last week, but of course i couldn't stay away from the little guy, so i went over to my bro's place and little j sneezed, coughed, and wiped his snotty snot all over me. i should have known better, considering kiddie germs are the most lethal germs for me to come in contact with. seriously. without fail, if i'm around a kid with the slightest cold, i get their cold. my bro's friends were in town w/ their kids the other weekend and one of the girls had a cough. after they left, i got her cough.

but this cough i have right now is majorly worse than any i've ever had. it's that really deep from within cough. i've been coughing so much that my chest is sore, my throat feels raw, and my head hurts. damn! some of my coughing fits get so bad that i actually throw up from them. sorry, i know that was kinda an overshare, but just want you to understand the severity here! it's torture!

i've tried everything. cough medicine. cough drops. tylenol. emergen-c. that kombucha tea drink. more cough medicine. nothing is working! i feel just as bad today than the last few days. there has been no sign of improvement! wtf!

so i'm gonna try (again) to see my doctor. i hate that they're anal about not seeing drop in's. if i can't get to my doc, then i guess i have to go to the emergency room, which is gonna suck ass. but i need to do something here!  this cough needs to die!

i just hope i can get rid of this thing before my bday!  don't wanna be coughing all over my cake!  :-)

July 8, 2008

pretty picture-that-just-makes-me-smile.....of the day

it's been weeks since i saw the movie (w/ my fabulous gal pals, of course!) and i'm still dreaming of all the amazing fashion in the film. this was by far one of my favorite outfits, head to toe. love the dress, the jacket, the belt, THOSE SHOES!!!!! maybe not as much the bag, but j'adore what it stands for. and carrie is def the only one that can rock an eiffel tower purse without anyone thinking twice. p.s. did you know that bag sells in the 4-digits! serious! :-)

anyway, just wanted to post this, for no other reason than it just makes me smile. especially after having seen the movie and the ending.

p.p.s if you love the fashion, definitely get the sex and the city movie book. details EVERY single outfit that appears in the film! serious!

funny videos of the day

stumbled upon these gems on current.com.

GREAT (and very accurate) cartoon depicting hipsters -

myspace vs facebook vs friendster vs second life -

the caricatures of THE HILLS cast is just priceless -

ENJOY!!

boyfriend of the day

i usually don't like to be so "gratuitous" in my selections for botd, but for mr. robert buckley here (from lipstick jungle), i think i'll make an exception.

if this is a sign of things to come on the next season of lj on nbc, i will most definitely be tuning in.

ciao!

music video of the day

(note: this post is carried over from my old site)

"closer" - ne-yo

great song. it's so hard NOT to love the songs ne-yo dishes out. and i think this is my OMG video of the moment just because it was shot so well. i haven't liked the way a music video was put together in a while!

loved the flashes of lyrics in the beginning, loved all the black/white contrast and shadowing, loved how clean it all looked, and especially loved seeing the michael jackson influence of ne-yo's performance. he was lookin pretty damn smooth, boy! who knew he had those kind of moves. there were moments where it did look too similar to justin timberlake's "my love" video (the shots of ne-yo w/ the lead female, shot against the all white background), but other than that the video was just perfect.

hawaii recap

(note: this post carried over from my old site)

greetings!

i bet you thought i ended up staying on the island of oahu since i've been M.I.A. for so long. apologies! just got caught up in lots of different things since my trip, which now feels like it was AGES ago!

just so i have some closure about the trip on this here blog, here are a few highlights -

- snorkeling in hanauma = awesome.
- almost hitting a couple of pedestrians in the middle of the night while searching for an ice cream shop = not so awesome.

- banana pancakes w/ macadamia nut sauce from boots & kimo - hands down my favorite meal of the trip.

- had THE best mini road trip through the island, on my way up to the polynesian cultural center. the drive was like an hour and a half, barely a road trip, but just the whole experience, as simple and short as it was, was still amazing. windows down, sun shining, blue water to the right, luscious green hills and valleys to the left, great tunes on the radio (crater 96 is the bomb! think koit x hawaiian music!), and just me alone with my thoughts.

- trolley rides around the island with my fellow japanese tourists (# of times i was mistaken as a japanese tourist translator: 3. # of times i was mistaken for a local: 3)
- getting lost around the ala moana mall

- taking in some culture at the bishop museum.

- cocktails by the beach to wind down the evenings
- morning swims in the ocean
- floating for what seemed like forever in the still lagoon at kuhio beach

to my blue hawaii, you will always be in my heart! until we meet again, hopefully sooner than later! love, kipani

touring my new (internet) home

seeing as how this is my new home on the 3w, i should probably give you a little tour of the joint.

to the right. little bit of info on yours truly.

underneath that, a whole mess of links, starting w/ the sites of some homies. then followed by just about every site i visit on a frequent, sporadic, or obsessive basis.  mostly covers music, fashion, travel, the goss & gloss of hollywood, some of my fave mags, etc.

next in line are the tags for my posts.  for your quick reference, a guide to some of the tags to come -

yours truly - any of my personal stories, rants, and raves
goss & gloss - anything gossip/hollywood related
jetset - stories from the road
hot tracks - songs or music that i'm particularly obsessed with at that very moment.
botd - boyfriend of the day. something i started on my old xanga blog. every once in a while there comes an actor, musician, athlete, or other various male that i become quite obsessive about. past botd's include: wentworth miller, milo ventimiglia, paul walker :-)
votd - video of the day - self explanatory. i really don't have some witty label for this one.
potd - pic of the day

and finally below the tags are the archives.  i'm trying to figure out how i can backlog some entries from my old site to here, but keeping the dates in tact. any insight to this would be much appreciated.

hello world! (again)

aloha!!  and welcome to my newly re-vamped blog. version 3.0. be sure to take note of the new address, bookmark it, tattoo it to yo fo'head, whatever you like. but do check back often and show a girl some love (via comments, which are always welcome!)!

in case you're wondering about the previous versions of this blog, allow me to provide you with a (very) brief history..................

v.1 - the thirdfloor blog. started by my friends during college as a way for us all to stay in contact, share stories, make fun of each other, etc. technically this wasn't my blog, but i'd like to think i was a strong contributor to the little site, which miraculously has not been taken down after all these years!

v.2 - i branched out on my own and moved over to xanga and camped there for several years. but as with all things in life, it was just about time for change. (NOTE:  i'll post the link to my old xanga site......eventually. just need to tweak it a little and make it more, ummm.........family friendly, if you will.  :-)  i can't be having my whole life on blast for the world to see, now can i? so stay tuned friends)

v.3 - the present. to keep consistent with my display name for my other "public" sites (ie myspace, flickr, etc), and because i couldn't change my display name/url on xanga, i decided to jump ship and head over to blogger.  plus this was the original birthplace of my bloglife, so i guess i've come full circle. insert "homecoming" track by kanye/chris martin here.

got lots planned for this little spot of mine, so check back often. this look right here is super basic, but i'll jazz it up in the next few weeks (if i can figure out how).

xoxo,
tiffanyblue

(yes, blame gossip girl for that sign-off right there. but don't be hatin, it's a good show!)
