best dressed: oscars

you guys enjoy the oscars last night?  thanks to my dvr and ability to fast forward through commercials and boring categories/speeches, i sure did!  glad that billy crystal and the producers decided to go the simple route and focus the show on why we love movies and why we love going to the movies.  bravo, sirs.

now let's get on to the more important stuff!  no, not recapping the night's winners but recapping the best dressed!  nothing too crazy or controversial on the red carpet this year (except of course for ryan seacrest getting ashed by sasha baron cohen during the preshow! classic). here are my pics for best dressed of the evening......

(images via fabsugar.com)

gwyneth paltrow in tom ford
sleek. elegant. and she's wearing a cape without looking like a super hero! amazing design as expected by mr. ford.

octavia spencer is tadashi soji
she walked onto that red carpet and worked this dress like she already won. i totally teared up as she gave her acceptance speech (the only one i didn't fast forward through). props to her for sticking w/ designer tadashi soji for all her gowns this awards season. she knows what she likes, she knows what looks good on her and she looked incredible all season.

PS - look at that clutch! love love love.

milla jovovich is elie saab
i know i know, another white dress!  sorry, i can't help it, but these were the dresses that made me either gasp or take a second look to swallow up all the wonderful details!  this one's all about the structure and that impeccable shoulder.

michelle williams in louis vuitton
finally a pop of color!  :)  this dress was just so well made, i don't know what else there is to say about it.  that layered peplum and the cute little bow are two of my favorite details.  dresses like this make me want to be a designer just so i can learn how in the hell you make something as intricate as this.

honorable mention:  emma stone

you know i love emma stone's red carpet style, but this time it was less about the dress (beautiful but not jaw dropping) and more about her killer accessories. and her performance on stage with ben stiller as the overzealous presenter (she killed it!).

just look at that clutch and bracelet!!!  insane!  both made my louis vuitton, both drool-worthy accessories that i would kill for.

golden globes - best dressed

awards season, let's do this.  here are my faves from tonight's golden globes.
(all pics courtesy of fabsugar.com)

charlize theron in dior
j'adore j'adore j'adore.  hands down my favorite look of the night.  everything about her look - the dress, the shoes, the hair, the HEADBAND, the makeup - is pure perfection. you must take a closer look at all the stunning details of her look here.

claire danes in j mendel
from the front the dress looks beautiful but not jaw dropping. but then claire danes turns around to show off the back and i was floored. pictures do not do it justice. this is one of those dresses you need to see up close. i saw pics on fabsugar of this dress first, but then saw her on e's red carpet and had to pause my dvr to take a closer look. it's just that amazing.

emma stone in lanvin
the eagle is just a little questionable but somehow, just somehow emma stone makes it work. she's become not only one of my favorite actresses as of late (see: the help, crazy/stupid/love) but also one of my favorite fashionistas on the red carpet (see her amazing gucci suit from the people's choice awards). the color blocking of the dress is beautiful, the shoulder detailing exquisite and the hair styling and makeup pull it all together. well done, girl.

salma hayek in gucci
i originally had this dress in my "honorable mention" category but because i can't stop looking at and examining the intricate beading of the top half and the way it works so well with the sequined bottom half, i had to bump this up to the best dressed list. ugh, salma hayek looks too amazing doesn't she. PS i want her hair!

honorable mention: reese witherspoon in zac posen. simple and structured, perfectly tousled hair, and a glowing smile. gotta love reese.

mtv movie awards - best dressed

the mtv movie awards show was last night and it was......meh. twilight predictably picked up all the major awards of the evening. jason sudekis did a good job of hosting, but with maybe one too many arnold jokes during his opening monologue. although i did appreciate his little dig at the mtv producers by reminding everyone that the M in MTV stands for music.

but anyhoo, let's get on with my favorite part of all these awards shows: the dresses! only had two favorites last night -

leighton meester in balmain
love all the long sleeve mini's that have been coming out for the spring/summer. ms. meester rocked it in this balmain number - the shimmer and patternwork is perfection.

emma watson in marchesa
a simple white dress taken to the next level by a beautifully embellished collar and shoulders.

inception artwork

(via flickr - click on image to enlarge)

i think this may be the coolest conceptual movie poster for inception yet. it took me a few minutes to figure out and fully understand it. wow. i wish my mind could come up with things like this.

see some other great inception posters: here.

oscar fashion

and the awards season is finally dunzo. the 2011 academy awards have come and gone. i never really like watching the show itself. it moves along too slow, too formal of a presentation, lots of hollywood butt kissing. they need to add more music performances in between awards, just to jazz it up. or something.

i really didn't think anne hathaway and james franco were that bad. i think every year the hosts get slammed. people set the bar way too high for the hosting gig. in the moment, critics will always hate the host. but then someone seemingly crappier hosts the next year and then everyone goes, oh they should have brought back last year's host. it's a neverending cycle.

but anyway, enough dissecting of the show. let's get on with the fashion!
(images via fabsugar.com)

1) gwyneth paltrow in calvin klein
hands down my favorite of the night. she just looked so young and fresh and beautiful. that dress was like liquid gold - it had this really great movement to it that you don't see too often in metallics. love.

2) hilary swank in gucci
the dress may not have fit her all that perfect on the top (should have been tailored better and fit tighter), but you can't deny how beautifully designed this entire dress is with the color choice, beading, feathers and of course that ombre! haha

3) celine dion in armani prive
my jaw dropped when i saw celine dion in this. so sleek, fit her like a glove, just amazing.

4) mila kunis in elie saab
i think this makes her 3 for 3 in my top faves from awards season! i was a little on the fence about this but after looking at more detailed shots, it really is a superb dress. plus she was the only one on the red carpet to go with lace and a light color. fantastic choice.

sag awards

i didn't watch much of the awards show itself (most of the same winners from the globes, yeah??), but i did log on to fabsugar like i do for every awards show to see who was wearing what! overall it seemed like the dresses were much simpler than what we saw at the globes. everyone must be saving the wow dresses for those oscars!

here are my faves of the night -

1) mila kunis in alexander mcqueen.
is this chick getting nominated? or even in strong contention of winning an award? because she's been killing it with her dress selections, like she's gonna walk up to that stage and collect every single award in the book. love the shape and flow of the dress and the print is amazing. was a little iffy about that belt at first but it really does work to bring the look together. PS i desperately need to learn how to curl my hair EXACTLY like this.

2) lea michele in oscar de la renta
thank goodness she went with a simpler dress this time. her pick for the globes was pretty but all that fabric just swallowed up her little frame. much better this time around - great color, just the right amount of shine, unfussy hair, flawless makeup. chic, simple, love. PS i need to learn how to do my makeup exactly like this! :)

3) julia stiles in monique lhullier
come on. it's ombre. of course i'm gonna give it some love! :) god i love these colors together - the fading effect works so well with dark navy and white. of all the dresses, this is the one i'd love to find in a store and buy for myself.

on the fence -

january jones in carolina herrera
sometimes i love this, sometimes i think it's too much. yes on the color combo and general shape/design of the dress, but on the fence about the amount of lace detailing from top to bottom.

Gym, Tanning, Laundry: The Official Jersey Shore Quote Book

i will gladly accept any or all of the above as belated xmas gifts or early birthday gifts.*

*ok no really, don't buy me any of these please

look of the day

i have a love/hate relationship with miss lauren conrad. but beauty done right, such as in the below, overcomes any ill feelings i may have toward the gal. :)

dare i say she looks like an american kate middleton here? i know, it's almost blasphemous to make such a comparison, right? but just in this pic, she's like the sun shiny socal version of the princess in waiting.

i love love love everything about this hair color on her plus the simple unfussy styling. i wish my skin tone was similar to hers just so i can rock this color for the spring time. but alas, this is just one more thing to add to my ongoing list of things to be jealous of about lauren conrad.

love and hate, my friends.

golden globes

awards season is upon us, which of course means dresses and gowns galore! woo hoo!

the critics' choice and people's choice awards have already come and gone, but really it's the golden globes that sets the tone and starts the big show of hollywood fashion.

i'll try to keep this short and sweet, so here are my three faves of the evening:
(images via fabsugar.com)

1) anne hathaway. armani prive
hands down my favorite dress of the night. impeccably clean design yet still glamorous. love the color and the design of the sequins onto the dress. but what put this over the top for me was the bold shoulder detailing. amazing.

2) emma stone. calvin klein collection.
first off, how great does emma stone look as a blond? didn't expect that at all. key word here: minimalist. loved this sleek, capped sleeve dress in a great color that complimented her skin tone and newly blond 'do. what can i say, it's an.......easy a. (sorry, i just had to!)

3) mila kunis. vera wang.
emerald was definitely the bold color statement for the evening, and i could've easily picked angelina jolie's dress too, but for gown design and head to toe styling i definitely preferred mila kunis' look. young and glam.

honorable mention: olivia wilde. her marchesa gown was a little too princessy for my taste, but the ombre color completely won me over. you know i love me some ombre.

fashionably late

i've had these fashion items bookmarked to blog about for like two weeks. now they kinda old news but whatever.

chanel mobile art exhibit in nyc

now this is an oversized handbag, my friends -

*pic courtesy of nymag

i'd totally live inside there.

i *heart* marc

let's go back in time and re-visit some of his memorable fashion moments. he took it to a whole other level just a few short years back when he chopped his hair off and ditched the square frame glasses. nymag left off one of my fave marc moments though. at last year's mj holiday party. dressed as a.......

*pic courtesy of eonline

camel toe!

coppola x vuitton

this is sure to be a great collabo. according to wwd and ny mag, sofia coppola's been tapped to design a shoe and handbag line for louis vuitton. boy, being one of marc jacobs' bff's sure has its perks!

i was kinda shocked (but also excited) to hear that she decided to go the chain department store route. what a leap from doing a diffusion line at urban.  the jcp line will be called i [heart] ronson.  according to wwd,
"Targeted towards the 21 to 35-year-old woman, I [Heart] Ronson will be priced at the store’s better tier, ranging from $15 for layering T-shirts and tanks to $26 to $44 for blouses, sweaters and jeans to $40 to $65 for dresses and jackets. In contrast, Ronson’s contemporary line for department stores wholesales from $70 to $130."

can't wait to see how the collection shapes up. got high hopes, but i must say playing in the chain department store channel when you're coming from a higher end background could be challenging.

oh did i ever mention how i tried on sarah jessica parker's bitten line?  oy, what a tragic disappointment. guess you can't expect much when you're dealing with a steve and barry's. the fabrics were poor quality. the cuts of the shirts were totally off. even on a skinny chick i don't think these items could have worked. i thought i'd find at least one item, even if it were a basic, to bring to the register. sadly, no.

cdg for h&m

we're only a few short weeks away until the comme des garcons for h&m line is released in (only 5 cities in) the US! the powell street store is the only one in northern california that will carry the line and i know it's gonna sell out in an instant, as do all these guest designer lines. i'm gonna need to make some h&m friends fast!

take a sneak peek at the line here
key pieces - belted trench, off center zip jacket
not sure if i'm feeling all the unaligned/deconstructed items and the harem pants (aka the hammer pants)
disappointed in the handbag but curious to see the navy w/ white polka dot wallet

SF's own upper playground opens shop in nyc

*pic courtesy of UP's blog

i look forward to checking out the east village shop on my next nyc excursion (possibly in the spring time, if anyone's down)

hooray for (the end of) heidiwood!

anchor blue gave heidi's ho bag of a clothing line the boot!!  thank you lord for not subjecting the fashion world to another season on this monstrosity! back to whoring out for the paparazzi! or working for bolthouse! oh wait, by the looks of next week's episode of the hills, it looks like her ass might be canned!  yeah, it's probably a fake firing to help save brent bolthouse's "image" and distance himself from the show, which is clearly going downhill. nevertheless, i'm sure it will still be entertaining as heidi sits there, with a blank look on her face, not understanding why she's getting fake fired from her fake job.

cutie patootie of the day

* pic courtesy of perez

aren't you just getting sick from all this cuteness!  first the jo bros and now zacky boy efron, who just celebrated his 21st birthday a few days ago. gots to love those side swept bangs of his. swoon!  haha!! just look what the new kids have done to me. i've gone back in time and turned into a crazed 16 year old!

damn, there ain't nothing on the tube on tuesdays (i've officially given up on 90210). i'm so bored!!! i really should get to bed early tonight since i got a jam packed day of meetings and presentations to work on tomorrow. yay!  which reminds me. you must peep this vid i happened upon this weekend.

madtv does powerpoint.

as someone who works on stupid powerpoint presentations WAYYYYY too much for her job (i seriously don't know how i get stuck doing presentations instead of our admin), i was dying of laughter throughout this clip. would love love love to throw one of these gags into a presentation one day.

October 20, 2008

tacky tacky tacky......

LOL pic of the day

*pic courtesy of justjared

major L- to tha O-L!!!!

yes, my friends. that is jessica simpson. in a beer ad. for something called stampede light plus. say what now?

so how many things can we count that are just plain wrong (yet hysterical) about this here ad....

1) jessica simpson + beer?
2) the beer name itself
3) the word smart in big bold letters. interesting word choice for someone of simpson's aptitude
4) ummm, she's sitting in the back of a truck against some haystacks.....
5) .....with a whore-ish expression on her face. seriously girl, close the mouth before a fly gets up in there.
6) it's yet another desperate attempt by joe simpson to force his daughter into the world of country music.

Celeb Babies of the Day

* Pic courtesy of People, Hello, and whatever photo agency that spent a butt load for these pics.

It's a hard Knox (and Vivienne) life.......

The pics of the a-list twins are finally out and circulating the web. But I'm actually loving that one of Shiloh in the corner a little more! How pretty (and ridiculously perfect looking) is she getting!

The Brangelina bunch is now complete. Or is it? 3 adopted kids and 3 au natural. 3 boys and 3 girls. And all these kids are ages 6 years and younger. NUTS!

Currently Watching.....

The red carpet show for the Teen Choice Awards on E!....

And Guilana is interviewing Vanessa Hudgens who's like 16 or something and the teen just said the word escrow. As in she's in the process of closing escrow on her new house. She's 16. That ain't right. I can't even afford rent in SF!

And while we're on the topic of all things teen-related, my mom straight asked me yesterday if I was going to a Jonas Brothers concert!  hahahaha!!!  I guess she heard they were in town and since I went to that Wild 94.9 show not too long ago I guess she figured I may be a Jo-Bro fan?  Or something? Seriously, I don't know where my mom was going on this one, but I was laughing hysterically when she asked. God love ya, ma.

And speaking of awards show, who's excited for the MTV VMA's!  I am, I am!  September 7!

Pic of the Day

Love it!  There's always been talk of a resemblance between these two, but WOW! Do I sense a cameo by the Zefron on Gossip Girl perhaps?  A long lost little brother for Nate Archibald perhaps? C'mon writers, get on it!

quickies

so abdc's on tonight and it's missy-focused. and supreme's out. which sucks. because they would've put together a kick ass routine. seriously sucks that they're dunzo. i think boogie and fanny are on the chopping block. remember, don't go to mtv's abdc blog tonight if you don't wanna spoil the elimination for yourself. you've been warned!

movies i wanna see -
- the wackness
- pineapple express
- sisterhood of the travelling pants 2 - is it bad that i really wanna see this? :-)

totally over -
- miley cyrus. did you see that youtube vid she made making fun of the wizards of waverly place girl? miley vs. selina (rumored to be fighting over a jonas brother) is the new lindsay vs. hilary (they fought over aaron carter of all people. gag). ok, why do i know so much about disney feuds? seriously.

albums coming down the pipe that i'm excited about -
- robin thicke
- ne-yo

shows premiering soon, also pretty excited about -
- the hills! woo hoo! love/hate relationship with this show, as always.
- making the band. yay for laurie ann's return!!
- i wanna work for diddy (i think that's the title)

shows currently watching that i've been surprisingly entertained by -
- i love money (go stallionaires! and for some reason, i heart whiteboy. haha!)
- from g's to gents (still trying to catch up on this one, but kinda funny so far)
- wipeout (definitely nowhere close on the funny meter to spike's MXC, but still love seeing a good, painful wipeout).

fave shows besides abdc -
- run's house! it took a little while for this show to grow on me, but now i totally love it!
- my boys (on tbs). love love this show. great cast, great writing.

show that needs to be yanked quick -
- buzzin

recent cd/dvd purchases -
- jason mraz
- santogold
- my-so called life season 1 dvd (unfortch the show never made it past season 1. one of the great tragedies of my adolescent youth).

next handbag on my radar -
- semi-slouchy hobo in either brown (super dark, deep brown) or a lighter tan/camel color. will have to wait for the fall lines to hit stores. seen some around but they've been too boho w/ the fringe detailing or vintage embellishments.
