i was on apple's movie trailers site today and this movie caught my eye.  it's just one of those feel good, look at life in a different way, find yourself, kind of indie films. the cinematography in the trailer alone looks amazing and beautiful and i'm sure the rest of the movie is the same. already added a quote from the trailer to my qotm section on the right.

it'll be shown in select cities at select theatres starting november 7.  check out the trailer below, and get more info on the movie here.

YES!

a fresh new take on one of my most favorite dance pop songs EVER!!!!

"two of hearts" - ultraviolet sound

OMFG. brilliant. the original by stacey q is still a frequently played song on my itunes, but it's about time someone new put their own spin on it. props to perez on this find!

listen to more ultraviolet here.

go electro!!!

9021-NO

since the tue reveal that dylan is kelly's baby daddy, he's been hounded by everyone about the possibility of guest starring on the show. well don't go busting out your i heart dylan mckay shirts just yet. luke perry ain't interested in reprising his role and coming back to the bh. i don't know about you, but at the end of the series, i always imagined dylan going back to mexico, in that damn poncho he used to wear all the time that sparked a fashion craze for a quick second, and being a beach bum, perhaps even owning some rinky dink surf shack. definitely didn't take him to be the world traveller out to save the planet, like kelly's making him out to be. total bummer that he doesn't want to make an appearance. my only joy in watching this show are the cameos and references to the original cast/storylines. and apparently this is true for the rest of the viewing world too because ratings dropped severely from the pilot to the 2nd episode (no brenda appearance in 2nd ep), but jumped right back up for the 3rd ep (with brenda back in). america just loves her (and the potential for her to reprise her bad gal ways, on and off the show).

rachel bilson x dkny jeans

celeb designer: rachel bilson
line: edie rose for dkny jeans

* pic courtesy of whowhatweardaily

now this is a celeb fashion line done right

it was announced a few months ago that she'd be teaming up with dkny and the line has just been released this week. super cute, easy pieces. LOVE rachel bilson's style in general and if there's anyone out there fit to make the appropriate jump into fashion it's her. she's very easy breezy chic, like you can tell fashion just comes naturally to her. she plays around with lots of different styles and manages to pull them all off - from glam girl to girl next door to hipster chic. as for the line, it's a very small collection. 4 jackets, a few tops, and a dress. the dress is definitely the highlight of the collection (it's already sold out online!). items are reasonably priced, with the most expensive piece at $98 (leather biker jacket).

also gotta give props to the dkny jeans site for making this line super easy to shop. you go to the homepage, the outfits are laid out in front of you, click on the outfit you like, and on the next page is each item in the outfit, listed individually and easy to add to your cart. not brain surgery at all, but sometimes online retailers just make it so damn difficult to find what you're looking for.

LOL of the Day!

so my brother calls me at work today. he's calling from his car and on his way to my place to pick up my laptop to install my new hard drive. so he's talking and i can hear a familiar song blasting in the background. now i'm half listening to him and half listening to the song trying to figure out who/what it is. (side note: yes, i get easily distracted by music like a little kid distracted by a shiny new toy. so if i'm ever in the middle of a conversation with you and there's music playing in the background somewhere and i'm suddenly silent and not at full attention, it's because i'm trying to figure out what the song is and apologies in advance for my musical ADD).

oh, so before i continue on, i do have to note that if i can hear a song playing in the background during a cell phone conversation, it must be playing pretty loud in the car. just have to state that real fast. so anyway, my brother's going on and on about some computer jargon, and then the key lyric comes on, lightbulb goes off in my head and i realize what it is. this is what i hear in the background .......

"i'll be your boyfriend...."

L-O-freakin L!!! it's that new kids song "single" with ne-yo! so now i'm cracking up over the phone and our conversation continues like this -

*me laughing*
bro: what are you laughing at?
me: you! you're fuckin jammin to nkotb in your car!
bro: no i'm not
me: yes you are i can hear the song
bro: no it's ne-yo
me: yeah, it's ne-yo........featuring nkotb!
bro: no it's not
me: yes it is! can you hear the other guys in the background?
bro: yeah
me: that's fuckin jordan knight and joey mac! hahaha!
bro: oh
*silence*
bro: shit! i didn't know. damn, i hate this song now

so then he skips to the next track and tries to play it off and changes the subject back to my laptop 'cause he's all hella embarassed. that's what happens when you have a little sis that's music savvy like that. i will call you out on shit like this! i just fully caught my older brother jammin to new kids on the fuckin block in his car. this is what little sisters dream of.

pieces of me, part 2

more thoughts, all over the place, in no particular order............

cd's to buy: leona lewis, ne-yo, robin thicke (out 9/30), john legend (out tbd)
dvd's to buy: sex and the city (out 9/23), iron man (out 9/30)
thx to rolsuno for the heads up on q-tip's latest drop, "gettin up". downloaded that today.
pop song that i'm just now finally getting into: rihanna's "disturbia" off her good girl gone bad deluxe re-release. wasn't feeling this track at first, but now can't get enough of it.
on another note - don't you hate when artists re-release their albums with new tracks? i've probably mentioned this gripe at some point in the past. thank god for itunes. well, at least for us legal mp3 purchasers that is. :-)
and another note - no, i did not like rihanna's performance of disturbia on the vma's. she just doesn't do it for me as a performer. lacks a certain energy on stage.

did i mention how i bought a nano and that nike+ system through work last month? haven't fully tested it out yet. but how bitter was i last week when apple released their NEW goddamn nano and touch models! so bitter!  especially about the ipod touch because they made some nice little improvements to it.

to date i have 3 ipods. isn't that ridiculous! my oldest model, the ipod photo (pre-cursor to the ipod video (now called the ipod classic - ya follow?), which came out just one month after i bought the photo model! damn!), i gave to my mom. but now she's complaining that it's so bulky compared to my other ipods and even to the iphone (when did my mom get all tech savvy). so she wants either a shuffle or nano. maybe i should get the shuffle and complete my little ipod family. :-)

i seriously need to stop smoking now that i'm working out a little more consistently. my rule of thumb right now is that i'm not allowed to smoke on running days. off days only when stressed from work. and okay when out drinking. :-) god, who would've thought i'd ever get to this point where i'm rationalizing it out like this. damn you nicotine!

random!  fergie topped people mag's best dressed list today. wtf? then there's US magazine's 25 most stylish new yorkers list that went out last week which is the most randomly compiled group of people i've ever seen. cassie, aubrey o'day and gayle king? seriously?

watch out vegas, i may be coming back in october!  more of a family oriented trip this time around though. my sis-in-law's sister's daughter (ya follow?) is turning 3 and having a big bash at a kids museum. so not gonna be partying like a rockstar like my belated birthday bash back in july (go lax! love those luxor bathrooms!).

another trip on the horizon/in the works - toronto in the springtime. my cousin's having her 2nd kid next month and i wanna try to visit both the new baby and her 3-year old while she's out on maternity over the next year. did you know canadians get a whole year off for maternity leave? plus my other cousins there have been giving me crap about going to new york the last couple years but not passing through canada. not that that's geographically convenient or anything, but i guess to them anytime i'm on the east coast, it warrants a trip further up north and across the border for a visit. don't ask. i'm already perfectly aware that my family is just crazy.

oh and did i mention how i'm missing out on a family ny trip at the end of the month! stupid work, i can't take any time off. arrggghhh! my mom's currently in jersey for work for two and a half weeks. then she's gonna stay in new york for the last few days of her trip and meet up with my bro, his wife, and baby j for four days in the big apple. i feel so left out!  :-(

by the way, baby j's turning 1 in just a month and a half!  my how time flies. seems like yesterday when i got the call from my bro telling me he was at the hospital and the baby was about to be born. i totally thought he was lying when he first called because he does stupid shit like that all the time and also because it was only the first week of november and baby j was due in late nov/early dec. he was so tiny back then! now he's practically walking!

i'm no longer gonna write about the hills and just leave it up to the ladies behind new york magazine's fashion blog, the cut, to provide all your hills recaps. they're hysterical and dead on with their observations on the show.

speaking of fashion, there's still lots to talk about with ny fashion week wrapping up in new york last week. but just wanted to post this hot little piece real quick on the continuing trend of headwear, wraps, bands, etc on the runways. loves it! thank you blair waldorf for setting the trend!

i think my brain's been adequately emptied for the night. time for zzzz's.

xoxo

shoes!

Seychelles architectural heel from Urban.

finally took the plunge today and purchased some shoes online! i normally never buy shoes online because i can't try them on. but once i saw these i just had to have them! we'll see what happens when they get here. i'm a little worried about the width just because i have some wide ass feet. and i'm hoping the fact that they're platform will make up for the heel height.

keep your fingers crossed that my next blog won't be about me having to return these! :-)

next up: low ankle booties and calf high riding boots.

pieces of me

currently watching: 90210
current state: still got my attention, but still waiting for something big to happen. no major drama or plot twists. acting is still kinda bad at times (girl who plays naomi is an overactor). and the only slightly comical character is still the drunken grandmother. chances of me tuning in again next week: right now at 50/50.
10 minutes later: DYLAN!!! DYLAN!! DYLAN!! YES!!! loves it! thank god it wasn't brandon! i've always been on team dylan. chances of me watching next week have just returned back to 100%. hahaha!

so last night was a totally depressing night of television -
- gossip girl - s and lonely boy call it quits for real.  vanessa is forced to break up with nate thanks to nate's black-mailing suga mama (how very soap opera that was!). and chuck loses blair....again....but probably for good this time. break up city!
- one tree hill - was full on balling last night!  one of the kids from the tree hill basketball team was shot and killed during a gas station robbery. he was one of those bad jocks turned good (much like nathan) and ended up being all bff's with the coach's 4-year old son. seriously, tears were streaming down my face during the entire episode. woke up the next morning and my eyes were all puffy!
- the hills - the fact that i still watch this show should be a depressing enough thought!! haha!

currently reading:
- the non-runner's marathon guide for women
- shape magazine's shape your life
- runner's world's complete book of running
i told you a few posts back, i'm on a mission. trying to get back into the running game, but boy has it been a severely steep uphill battle. i question though if i was ever in the running game to begin with. back in the day when playing lacrosse, i dreaded our running sessions. 3x/week doing distance runs, twice a week sprinting up and down the field. some days it was reversed and we had more sprinting days. and some days we did a combo of both and didn't even get to touch our sticks all practice long. oh those were the days. flash forward 6 years later and i just never got back into a regular exercise routine in quite the same way. damn, i just realized that 2002 was my last full lacrosse season. time fuckin flies! anyway, the struggle continues but i'm praying that one of these days it'll just get a little easier.

teacake bakery in emeryville is the shit! three words. chocolate banana cupcakes. trust me, they are delish! i've gone back with my family twice already since we discovered this little gem. happy days with happy little cupcakes. it's amazing how these little guys can just put a smile on your face.

staying on the topic of food, i finally ate at ozumo last week. dropped some mad cash that night but damn was the food good! my stomach was like a bottomless pit that night. just kept eating and eating and eating! finished the meal off with a dessert fondue. heaven.

this weekend i went with my bro and his fam to check out the condo's that were just built next door to his place. literally just steps away from his place. 1 bedroom 1 bath for $400k. the housing market just boggles my mind. i LOVE going to an open house. just love walking through a new place where every single room is perfectly decorated and i picture myself living there. :-) the 1 bed 1 bath unit was surprisingly very cozy. was super impressed with how these condos turned out. none of them felt cramped at all. they did a great job maximizing the space they had. it's called park station and it's on el camino right next to the bart station. my bro doesn't like how it's one big apartment building with shared, enclosed hallways, but i didn't really mind it. reminds me of a hotel. and i LOVE hotels. if i were ridiculously rich, i'd probably live out of a hotel and just own vacation homes here and there. oh and i'd have a driver. because one, i'm admittedly not the greatest driver (who wants to teach me how to parallel park!) and two, i just like being driven around. :-) in a past life i think i was one of those super sweet 16 rich kids. living on the upper east side. maybe that's why i love watching gossip girl so much. a glimpse into my former life.

what the hell am i talking about? ok time for bed. so tired today. barely made it through my run today. fell asleep for a quick second at my desk today. tomorrow's another day.

"Give it to Me" - Madonna feat. Pharrell

LOVE THIS SONG. nothing new, just kept forgetting to post this.

isn't it ridiculous how madonna still looks so great and on top of the game after all these years. and collaborating with great producers. love the beats and production behind this song. gotta love that pharrell.

p.s. i need a guy who's as smooth and fashion savvy as pharrell. oh and don't forget to add a dash of that t.i. dirty south swagger.  :-) but seriously, all pharrell's rockin are a pair of jeans, a bbc tee and some wayfarers but he still manages to look hot as hell. it's all about the way he carries himself in the 'fit that makes all the difference. take note, boys. :-)

90210

yes i've watched the premiere and last night's ep #2 and i've still got mixed feelings about the show. it's hard to compare version 2.0 to the original with the high hopes and expectations that it will be as impactful as the original. the core storyline is the same (small town family moves to the crazy world of beverly hills, teenage bro/sis combo deal with teenage drama). but the times and the setting in which this take place are much different. plus the core audience of the original is now in their late 20's and a lot more disconnected from the current teenage target demographic.

back then, 90210 was the only show of its kind out there. but today it's competing against gossip girl, the hills, and countless other teen-focused dramas/reality shows. from what i've see so far, the show has potential, but the writing needs to be stepped up dramatically. not only in terms of storyline (last night's episode was WAY too predictable and unexciting) but also in terms of its scripted conversations. there's no witty, creative writing or scenarios here. there isn't a standout character. watch an episode of gossip girl and listen to their exchange. it's witty and sometimes ridiculous, but in the end it's all very entertaining. even go back to the OC - seth cohen is a perfect example of a memorable character because he was always making pop culture references or funny sarcastic remarks about the absurdly wealthy world he lived in. or how about one more example - dawson's creek. despite the fact that it was a teen drama, what set it apart was the dialogue and the fact that they talked like adults (plus it was very dramatic for a teen show).

i'd actually like to see this show do well, but it's got a lot of catching up to do. i think the only reason i'll continue to tune in every week is for the slight little nods to the original. who's kelly's baby daddy? what's brenda's role going to be? the cameo last night by kelly's alcoholic mom was the highlight for me, only because it's the exact same actress and she picked up right where she left off in the original, as the crazy ass drunken mother.

other notes and random observations -
- silver is my fave female character so far, but mostly because she's a direct descendant of the original cast (kelly's mom + david silver's dad), which i thought was just brilliant
- fave male character is ethan, the likeable popular jock
- loved the wbhs lax action in the premiere episode!
- annie constantly reminds me of ali lohan, which makes me not want to like her
- naomi's my least fave character so far, but mostly because that curly coif of hers is ridiculously out of control
- other least fave is the druggie actress chick
- there needs to be a steve sanders on this show. someone who's just crazy cocky, gets into trouble left and right, takes full advantage of his wealth, comes to school drunk, etc. think chuck bass, the west coast version. or brandon davis, the firecrotch edition. just someone you love to hate to love. someone to stir the pot a little.
- lori laughlin, no matter what role she takes on, will always be aunt becky to me.
- in the 1st episode when the adopted kid (i forget his name) gets in a fight with that other lax player, i really wanted the other guy to get up and say, welcome to beverly hills, bitch.

ok, i've gone on WAY too long about this show. i can't believe i even analyzed it to this depth! deep down, i know i'll always be a teeny bopper at heart. i listen to cheesy pop music (go jonas brothers! haha!), i still text OMG and say shit like, that's so dunzo, and i watch shows like 90210. but take a hint from mary j and take me as i am, or have nothing (to read) at all. :-P

checking in

just noticed that my site meter has gone up a bit within the last week. hooray! i know peeps have been coming by but no one ever leaves a comment. damn, no love for this girl.

topshop til you drop!

topshop's us website is finally up and running!!!!!!!  hooray!!!!!

TOPSHOP US

you just don't know how excited i am about this! i LOVE topshop. it's like a more condensed, boutique version of h&m/forever, but a little more expensive and stepped up, with quality pieces that aren't so cookie cutter. they're based out of the uk and i've always been too chicken to try and buy anything from overseas, one because i don't shop for clothes/shoes online very often because i can't try them on and i don't like going through the hassle of returns. and two, because i just didn't understand how the currency thing works out when making purchases online through an international site. :-) i'm sure it's all totally fine, but like i said, chicken.

anyway, they finally launched a us site, something LONG overdue. and in november they're opening the first us store in new york. looks like i'll have to plan another trip out east!  it's gonna be nuts during those first few weeks. and it's right before the holidays too. think i'll wait until the spring to visit.

gotta go and (top)shop to my little heart's content!

vma 2008

so britney never performed last night. she opened, as promised. but no performance. such a bummer! but this really set the tone of the evening don't you think? lots of hype but nothing to back it up. compared to last year's show, this was super tame, mellow. but overall a little forgettable. yeah we got a brash brit to host, yeah he picked on the jo bros and virgins all around the world, but seriously, not much envelope pushing for the most part. the only lol moment from brand came when he joked about chapstick on the privates in reference to katy perry's song! anyway, not its most memorable, but this awards show will always go through its peaks and valleys.

but let's move on. in no particular order below, i give you the random musings of a faithful, but disappointed, vma viewer......

- winner of the evening: brit. long overdue wins. congrats girl! she looked great and seems to be on the right track. but did anyone else feel like she was a tad robotic in her speeches? like they were pre-written and fed by larry rudolph? i mean yeah, they probably were, but damn, she could've been a little less obvious. but i can't hate for too long. i much prefer late '08 brit vs. last year's jacked up version.
- LOVED katy perry's performances. who would've expected that from her? i sure as hell didn't. and i hate to say it but i think her little tune is finally growing on me.
- LOVED seeing AM and travis together like that on the side stage! last year ronson. this year AM. aoki in 2009!!!!!!! come on mtv, make it happen!
- lil wayne/t-pain performance - i hate admitting this but i really liked their energy on stage and enjoyed their performance. but again i just have to ask, someone please explain the physics behind lil wayne's pants staying up like that! they sag so low - i just don't get how they float around his ass like that without ever dropping to his ankles!
- rihanna's opening performance sucked! sorry yall but she just doesn't do it for me on stage. not in the least bit. no energy. she can't dance very well (i mean she does okay but not spectacular). sorry girl, it was nothing compared to your cameo umbrella performance during chris brown's show last year.
- TI was totally lip synching. rappers do that? his whole opening sequence going around town with his gal was weak and corny as hell. that ain't the TI i know and love. give me the rough n tough guns a blazin TI any day!
- christina aguilera is the new lady gaga! loves it! genie in a bottle remix? LOVES IT! new single? LOVES IT! i swear, christina can do no wrong musically. except yeah she was lip synching too, but i'll let that slide only because she was dancing and i love her new tune. :-)
- there wasn't a single outfit last night that stood out and burned up the red carpet. loved the idea behind katy perry's vintage inspired pinup girl look, but something about it was still off and not quite right. there was a lot of glitz and sparkle on all the short dresses of the young'uns, but nothing original and fabulous. kinda like the state of the music industry today! haha!
- so who else was majorly disappointed that fanny pak 1) didn't get to perform on the big stage, just on the pre show stage 2) didn't even get to present the award, they just stood there and 3) got outstaged by la lohan!
- tokio hotel? really? i didn't know bjork had a grown ass son.
- bring back chris rock for '09!!!

just dance!

a vid post inspired by the brit video, chris brown's show stoppin vma performance last year, abdc, and justin timberlake in general. some fun dance videos for yall from my ever favorite duo - kenny wormald and nick bass. these guys are just so smooth and consistently pick great tracks to dance to.

to michael jackson's "off the wall"

to musiq's "just friends"

same routine as above to michael jackson's "off the wall" - just clearer and with the two guys by themselves

to chris brown's "picture perfect"

video of the day, vma edition

* vid courtesy of msn/perez

ummm......this is effin awesome! i was already excited about the vma's, as i am every year. but this totally bumped it up a notch!

i watched this like 5 times already! very impressed at the overall length of the dance sequence. i like how it's not, okay do 2 counts of 8, then freestyle/gyrate/whatever for a little bit, then get back into another set of 2 counts. it was step after step after step. i'm just sitting and waiting for her to get back to her bad ass pre-federline days when she used to tear it up on stage. like this!

let's hope this vid truly is from her rehearsals for the vma's. already, what a huge improvement from last year right!

we're rootin for ya brit!

September 4, 2008

just for the record -

it's 9:21 pm on a thur night and i'm still at work.
my ass and my back hurt from sitting in my chair for too long.
my eyes are going cross-eyed, vision's getting a little blurry. (but i'm still blogging!)
i need to finish up these sketches! woe is me for being a perfectionist.
i have a 2-hr meeting tomorrow morning. at 8am. shit!
did i eat lunch today? it's been so long i can't even remember!
i'm actually not the only one here. one more person in attendance.
it's kinda creepy being in the office this late.

ok i need to go home. just needed to put this on record that i'm actually stupid enough to be here this late. so that later on in time, after i've won the lotto (or marry a gazillionaire) and i'm relaxing by the beach with my laptop, i can read my old blog entries and be all, what a silly girl i used to be, working in corporate america until the wee hours of the night. and then sip on my mai tai and lounge on my thousand dollar beach chair on my private beach.

what the hell am i talking about?!! time to go.

September 2, 2008

song/lyrics of the day

"i wanna stand up, i wanna let go
you know, you know - no you don't, you don't
i wanna shine on, in the hearts of men
i want a meaning from the back of my broken hand

another head aches, another heart breaks
i'm so much older that i can take
and my affection, well it comes and goes
i need direction to perfection, no no no no

help me out, yeah
you know you gotta help me out, yeah
oh don't you put me on the back burner
you know you gotta help me out, yeah"

--the killers
"all these things that i've done"

All These Things That Ive Done - The Killers
this is probably one of my favorite songs by the killers. the tune popped up on my itunes earlier today while it was playing on shuffle.

it's just so well written and arranged. the beginning where brandon flowers goes, "you know, you know," like he's asking, you feelin me? know what i mean? but then immediately he retracts in that very same line and goes "no you don't you don't,' saying actually, no you have no idea where the hell i'm coming from with this! brilliant. and then there's that simple line leading up to the chorus - "i need direction to perfection, no no no no help me out". so easy and direct. why can't i write shit like that all the time!

and of course nike, being the evil sports geniuses they are, making all these great commercials left and right, used this song in their recent ad for the olympics with the tag line - everything you need is already inside - which is now my quote of the moment featured on the right side of the page. all these god damn brilliant people! :-)

peep the commercial here. now get off your ass and do something. :-)

nkotb-my-boyfriend!

click on the link for the new kids' latest video for their new single. called "single." no, seriously.

New Kids on the Block feat. Ne-Yo - "Single"
* vid courtesy of mr. perez

not sure how i'm feeling about the whole thing after just one listen and one viewing of the vid. still hate the dancing. hate the intro/outro with donnie (not klang - don't get it twisted now) doing that talkish rap or whatever you'd call that. i'm for sure not into the "i'll be your boyfriend" lyric repeated over and over throughout the chorus. much too boy band of a lyric when they're clearly grown ass men. if it was a jonas saying that line, then no worries. but not when you got a couple of members married with kids - that ain't right.

but i'm not a total hater here. i do love the melody. and well, of course i like ne-yo's parts in the song. cause this girl loves her some ne-yo jams! haha! maybe if i listen to it a couple more times this tune will grow on me.

totally off the topic of nkotb but still music related. the pussycat dolls scored BIG time with their latest single "when i grow up". they were popular before, but this just took them to another level because that song is used EVERYFRIKKINWHERE these days. every promo for every reality show competition is just all over it. and mtv's claiming it for the theme song of their new america's best dance pop group show (i don't think that's really the show title but it might as well be with mario hosting). abdpg! :-)

speaking of abdc (kinda), did yall catch the vma special? fanny pak better win that shit! if i have to hear that one dorky short guy from so real crew talk again, let alone present an award at the vma's, i'm gonna lose it. can you just see it? he'd be all, yeah, chris brown is the winner of the best dance video, and he's really talented, but so real crew's been through a lot and we're talented too.  damn i can't stand that guy.

can't wait for the vma's this weekend!  woo hoo!

video of the day

"to be confident makes you beautiful. makes you happy. makes you fulfilled."

i love this new american express commercial with diane von furstenberg.  the piano in the background, the nature shots, the interpretation into the clothing designs. magnificent.

i cannot wait to start my sewing classes at the end of the month!
