concert review: ne-yo

never got around to writing up this review (read: too lazy), but thankfully le reegsta has returned and penned it today. so i'll just have him tell you all about it. :-)

although, he did leave out the pre-show festivities, which is probably a good thing because i'm pretty sure i was acting a fool. all i remember was not understanding a question about my recent music purchases. :-)

oh and i believe these were the highlight songs for each person in attendance (feel free to correct me, guys) -
rolsuno - because of you (winner!)
michelle - let me love you
moi - boyfriend and take a bow (i was singing these at the top of my lungs!)
g.i. - miss independent
reeg - track 8 from yr of the gentleman (although since his fave ne-yo song is apparently sexy love, that was probably a highlight too)

new york, i love you

I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE!!!

i LOVED paris je t'aime and i have doubt that nyc's version will be just as great. the film doesn't come out for another few months, but i just found one of the first trailers, which of course made me even more excited, especially with that mika's "love today" song to open it up!

confession

i'm starting to like these songs, despite the better half of me telling me not to.  similar sounds. file these under guilty pleasures from listening to too much radio.........

so close yet so far

so i've been on a search for this obama shirt i saw back in october, but keep hitting a dead end with every lead. the shirt is a play off those names/neighborhood shirts. saw it on a dj at roe (s- this was actually at your bday - the opening dj before samantha ronson!). the shirt went.....

me&
you
obama&
yo cousin
too

cool, right?

so today i get a twilight blip on tees made in the same fashion. for example......
*pic courtesy of thenamesbrand.com

so i quickly log on to the tee creator's site, gasp when i see they have obama shirts, and then......

nada!
zilch!
do not pass go!

hopes were up briefly, then quickly dashed.  the search continues.

p.s. anyone know where this design style even started? curious.

trailer: transformers 2

just saw this trailer for the very first time, literally 2 minutes ago on mtv, and i was GLUED to my screen. great intro. was totally left speechless (that seems to be happening to me a lot lately). had the same kind of reaction after seeing the preview for the first movie. michael bay knows how to put them trailers together!

but you know what this trailer really needed?

more josh, less shia.

mmmmm.......josh duhamel.

go electro!

whoa. the music world is a-changing, bit by bit.
saw a feature last night on e!'s daily ten on [hypercrush].
and now today mtv buzzworthy just featured an interview with [lmfao]. read it here.

want a nice little intro into all this indie/electro pop? go watch that 100 dances vimeo again and peep the playlist. like i said yesterday, that ish was on point. he must be a frequent attendee of popscene. :-)

go electro!

on the not so electro but semi-influenced tip -
- recently had convo's with 2 more hip hop heads suddenly interested in lykke li. crazy.
- and what's this i hear of santogold changing her name to santigold? because of a wrestler?
- and i was at barnes & noble today (still on a desperate quest to find the current EW/twilight issue!) and started reading nylon guys. pharrell was on the cover so i just had to pick it up. so intrigued by him. love the guy's style. anyhoo, was totally trippin because they had an interview with n.a.s.a.!!! those guys are gonna blow up! if you haven't done so already, you need to listen to their playlists on imeem.

wow, went link crazy on this post.  how about two more? if you wanna branch out of your comfort zone / comfort genres and try on some new music, check these out -

a must. amazing stuff.

anyone down for an amoeba run this weekend?

i do loves the sharp dressed men.

take me away

to this heavenly little retreat in hana, maui.

the ala kukui retreat center.

another dreadful work week is just around the corner and all i want to do is flee to hana!!!!!

damn

didn't take that long for me to cave in!

http://twitter.com/misstiffanyblue

to twitter or not to twitter.........

that, my friends, is the question.

i just don't know if i can keep up with all these modern forms of communication! my current checklist as follows:

email - via yahoo
phone/text - via verizon/lg
blog #1 - via blogger.com
blog #2 - via blogger.com
facebook

to even think of adding twitter to the mix is to think myself crazy for adding yet another portal into my (admittedly not so exciting) life!

but it looks oh so tempting. like a shiny new toy. errr, in my case, a shiny new handbag would be the more appropriate and accurate term. :-)

but to blog is to twitter, only in so many words, right?

i'll have to ponder a little longer.

kickin it old school

happy belated valentine's day!

so i put this little playlist together, fully inspired by one of the best old school slow jam mixes i've heard in a while that was on kmel on friday night. it was rainy out, i was driving home from work, and all these slow jams kept coming on the radio one after the other that took me back. i even had to sit in my car in front of my house for a few minutes because i just couldn't tear myself away from these songs and stop singing! :-)

so.....sorry this is a little late. i meant to post as a valentine's day present to you, my dear readers, but it actually took me a little bit to compile these. plus i kept getting distracted and kept playing some of these songs over and over because i just couldn't get enough.

i must say, i'm a bit proud of this little playlist. i know it doesn't even break the ice when it comes to all those great r&b songs that came out in the 80's/early 90's, but hopefully this is enough to just take you back in time, for just a moment, to those simpler days of yore.

28 songs for the 28 days in the month of love.

February 13, 2009

music vid of the day

lil mama just happens to be the "singer" (and i use that term very loosely) of this song, but the real stars of the vid (and subsequent reason for posting) is FANNY PAK!!!!!

p.s. how ridiculous does lil mama sound trying (way too hard) to do that whole retro etta james look and feel and sound. save this ish for beyonce or even christina aguilera, girl.

p.p.s. i'd probably actually like this song if it was any other artist BUT lil mama.

p.p.p.s. i am in love with those three boys from fanny pak. so damn cute!

obsession du jour: alexander mcqueen for target!!!!

THIS JUST MADE MY DAY. thanks wwwd!!!!!

jam of the day

okay, one more post, now that i'm all hopped up on music.....

a new jam of the day -

i am sorry, but this is MY SONG right now!! this just kicks the single ladies track to the curb.

if i was the baddest bitch on the block, i would want this as my entrance song into every room i walk into. haha!

thank you and good night!

christina - keeps gettin better......

it's 11:30 pm and i was planning on hitting the sheets.
i had no intention of blogging.
that was until i decided to check out perez's site and read the following music blip:

WHAT?!!

i hope this is all true because that would make for an amazing lineup of tracks on her next album. read more here.

the ladytron collabo should come at no surprise seeing as how christina delved into a little electro/dance/pop on her greatest hits album, first with "keeps gettin better" and then with her remix of "genie in a bottle." but the sia collabo is just as exciting.  sia's writing and arranging combined with christina's vocals? forget it!  just imagine christina aguilera singing this song -

i just got chills.  can't wait to hear these tracks. and hopefully perez will post them on his site!

February 10, 2009

25+

and here's the second set of 25 that i just posted onto facebook today!

these are a little longer and more story-based/confession-based. hopefully somewhat entertaining. i was actually entertained while writing this and thinking back on some of these fond memories.

woo!  aren't you proud of all these posts today!  my 4 goals from sunday are still within reach as we get to the almost half way point of the week. and this shall be my last post of the night as i log off my computer and crack open breaking dawn.  :-)

1- i'm semi deaf in my left ear.
2- i can't parallel park.
3- in a high school lacrosse game i accidentally hit a girl from the other team in the face with my stick and she had to leave the game to get stitches. we ended up going to the same college and becoming friends. but she told me she hated me after that game because she had to get 5 stitches by her eyebrow and had prom that same weekend! my bad!
4- on the plus side i did score my very first goal during that same game! haha!
5- 2 reasons i decided to play lacrosse in high school: 1) because i didn't make the volleyball team and desperately wanted to play another sport. 2) to share the field with the hottie boys lax team.
6- coaching resume: elementary school volleyball, high school lacrosse, college club lacrosse.
7- i hated living in south city when i was growing up because it felt so far away from school and all my friends lived nearby. i wanted to live in the sunset and i was so bitter at my family for moving us out of the area when i was a baby.
8- i wanted to be a cheerleader in 8th grade but i was too chicken to audition.
9- i wanted to be on the dance and drill team in high school, but again, i was too chicken to audition.
10- my mom forced me take piano lessons when i was a kid but i hated the pressure of recitals. so i pretended to mess up badly during one recital then pretended to be all traumatized from the experience and she never made me take another lesson.
11- i now regret not continuing piano lessons because it would be nice to know how to play an instrument. should've just listened to my mom!
12- i won the religion award during my junior year of high school. funny thing is i totally cheated my way through religion class that year. that's like a triple sin!
13- i also cheated my way through geometry sophomore year. thanks jeff!
14- i don't understand tagalog. and i totally blame my brother for it. my mom told me she and my dad stopped speaking it so much when i was younger because they wanted to make sure my brother fit in okay at school (he's 6 years older) so they'd speak to him and me in english instead.
15- tv shows i could just watch over and over again - growing pains and saved by the bell
16- i still buy cd's regularly and from various sources. yes, even bmg sometimes!! haha!
17- i currently have 3,034 songs in my itunes library. but i've gone through 2 computers, both of which had extensive libraries of their own, both of which crashed on me. and i lost thousands of great songs. so i've never felt that the # in my collection today is accurate and a true reflection of my music library because i still can't let those other ones go!
18- i didn't go to my first concert until the summer after i graduated high school. warped tour at pier 30/32. highlights: less than jake, alkaholiks, mighty mighty bosstones, and sugar ray (was obsessed with mark mcgrath back in those days! man!).
19- injuries to date, from head to toe: concussion, black eye, dislocated shoulder, sprained thumb, lower back sprain, knee sprain, ankle sprains. thankfully no broken bones ever, knock on wood.
20- the dislocated shoulder happened when i was 3 or 4 and i was playing in the park at a family party. i didn't want to go yet and my dad was pulling my hand for me to leave, but i was pulling back towards the playground so hard that i popped my own arm right out of the socket! luckily when my dad let go of my hand, it popped right back in. i was running on so much adrenaline that i guess the pain never registered and i didn't cry. my dad still didn't let me stay and play though.
21- my mom loves jewelry stores and named me after the tiffany & co store. if my dad got his way my name would actually be grace. thankfully my mom won that battle, so grace became my middle name.
22- my first job was the summer after high school, i worked as an admin/secretary at blue shield. same company as my mom, different department. there was no internet to surf back then, so i'd spend my slow days doodling, daydreaming, and journaling.
23- i worked at the wherehouse the following summer. that's when i really started to build my cd collection. thanks to all those used cd's that came through.
24- one of my great pleasures in life is perusing the aisles of amoeba on haight street.
25- another great pleasure: a good magazine and an english breakfast latte from coffee bean and tea leaf.

25

le reegsta totally beat me to the punch in transferring the "25 random things" notes from facebook onto our respective blogs.

so here's mine.

the first 25.

1. i've been tagged by 3 people on this note thing.
2. i'm obsessed with my little nephew who learns so many new things every single day.

4. i wish i lived in the city.
5. i wish i could afford to live in the city.

8. i'm the only one i know who's still really good friends with people from her pre-school/kindergarten days.
9. i'm the only one i know who's still really good friends with her freshman year college dorm roommate (and honorary roommate!).
10. i snore when i'm sleeping on my back.
11. apparently my eyelids don't fully close when i'm asleep, so i've been told.
12. i hate horror movies. not the cheesy ones from the 80's that were all gorey. but the ones with spirits/ghosts/scary kids/haunted houses/creepy music.
13. i'm also terrified of spiders.

15. i almost went to uc san diego instead of uc davis.
16. lacrosse was the reason i went to uc davis.

21. cd currently in my car stereo: ne-yo's year of the gentleman
22. i know a lot of guys - family and friends - who LOVE ne-yo's music. it's totally fascinating and mind boggling.
23. my closest friends and i are all turning 30 this year! crazy!
24. i'm planning on going skydiving for my 30th birthday, which isn't for another six months, so hopefully i won't change my mind!.
25. cities on my radar to visit this year: toronto, new york, and somewhere new in hawaii that i haven't been to before.

obsession du jour: cc skye

huge fan of cc skye's jewelry line.

my first purchase - the double wrap chain bracelet, which i j'adore!

next planned purchse - the power ring

on my radar - the woven leather chain bangle

playlist of the month

new month, new playlist!

this is my calming mix. just a few songs that keep me at ease during a busy work day. can't go wrong with some jack, jason, and colbie, with a dash of maroon.

i heart ronson

*pics courtesy of jcpenney.com

charlotte ronson's line for jcpenney, i heart ronson, is now in stores and online!

the online assortment doesn't look all that compelling and isn't really styled in line with the brand, but i guess that's what you get when you work with the chain stores!

this totally made me sad

i know, it's stupid, but i used to watch this show a lot growing up. one of those fond memories with my lola. during the summer i'd stay with her and we'd spend the afternoon watching our abc soaps - all my children at noon, then one life to live at one, then the best of all, general hospital at two.

we used to love the whole crazy buchanan family. except for evil asa buchanan, of course.

awww, this just made me a little sad. :-(

boyfriend of the day

you knew this had to be coming based on my dvd review!

another botd newbie: CAM GIGANDET.

enjoy the hotnesss.......

*pics courtesy of popfan.com and justjared.com

dvd review: never back down

*pic courtesy of amazon.com

okay, so you're probably wondering why the hell i'd netflix this movie right? two words - cam gigandet. how about one more word after that - shirtless. :-)

cam gigandet played the bad guy vampire in twilight (that blond wig he had to wear did absolutely nothing for him, looks wise that is). he also plays the bad guy in never back down. oh and he also played the bad guy on the oc - volchok - who was responsible for marissa's death at the end of the series.

to sum it up nicely, never back down is the ufc/mma version of the karate kid in every possible way. so that makes cam gigandet the new johnny "put him in a body bag" lawrence (technically it was another cobra kai that said those words, but ya get my drift), and subsequently cam is also the new william zabka since he's now played back to back to back bad guy roles just like zabka.

sean faris plays jake tyler, the new kid in town (just like daniel-san) with a chip on his shoulder who gets into fights a little too easily. he gets lured by a girl to a party where he basically gets his ass handed to him by cam's character, ryan mccarthy. enter the mma training facility that his friend brings him to. enter our new mr. miyagi, the mma instructor played by djimon hounsou (aka mr fabulosity, kimora's main squeeze). cut to the cheesy training sequences. and finally cut to the "beat down" which of course is your standard underground mma fighting tournament. they might as well have been playing "you're the best....around!" while our two main characters were fighting other people and progressing their way through the tourney. seriously.

so i'm not gonna spoil the whole movie for you, but i think you get the basic jist of it all, yeah? definitely not award-winning by any means (unless you count the razzies), but still slightly entertaining nonetheless (about 1/4 through the movie it turned into a how-many-karate-kid-cliches-can-i-find game). and if nothing else, at least there's plenty of eye candy. :-)

February 9, 2009

best. grammy's. ever.

thank you grammy's for reinvigorating my love for music!

i am seriously spent after watching last night's show! i don't remember the grammy's ever having such a stellar lineup of performers quite like this. and i'm not sure if it's because i just paid a lot closer attention to the artists of this past year or what, but this was like mtv vma caliber with their list of performers and collaborations.

i just about died during the show. cause of death - overexcited convulsions at the news of blink 182 reunited (and it feels so good!). i lost my mind when i saw mark, tom and travis standing there together on stage and then just about had a seizure when mark announced that they're working on new music again. i truly truly believed that they just weren't getting back together to produce new music and go on tour again, due to all the drama between mark/tom and with all three of them making their own music with their respective bands. but never say never i guess! and i am seriously the happiest girl in the world right now!

so who wants to go down to san diego to see them this summer!!!!! i imagine they'd kick things off in sd and that will definitely be the show of all shows. i can't wait!

let's move on to some of the performances of the evening:
justin/al green/boyz II men
- i love ya justin, but i would've much rather seen more b2m on stage than jt, especially since he'd be performing again later with my hottie bf t.i. :-)
- so remember what i said during the inauguration ball about the world being a better place whenever stevie wonder performed? well same goes for al green and "let's stay together." that song just puts us all in a better place, don't it?
coldplay x jigga?
sick!! totally reminded me of jay z's mtv unplugged performance years back. i need to bust out that cd again. and someone tell me what that coldplay song was in the opening! and tell me when you're going to see them in concert because i'd love to catch these guys live.
carrie underwood
this girl has blown up like crazy into this country super super superstar. what a great performer she turned out to be - totally commands your attention like no one i've seen before. way to go american idol!
miley cyrus/taylor swift
i am by no means a taylor swift fan (she a jo bro hater), but performing alongside miley cyrus, there's just no denying that taylor is the more talented singer. i wasn't feeling miley's vocals at all, but i can't hate on the gal too much though - i do love me some hannah montana episodes! haha! and since when have these two been bff's? what happened to mandy?
jonas brothers/stevie wonder
i ain't gonna lie. i got a little overexcited when the jonas boys took the stage. there's just something about these 3. they're so fun! and they sounded great with stevie wonder, the now unofficial 4th jonas. but did i catch little nicky jonas flub up his lines for superstitious? oops! i think i do need to pick up their album now. i've been denying myself for too long. :-) don't hate.
m.i.a./kanye/jay-z/t.i./lil wayne
first of all, m.i.a. was full on preggers during the performance and was supposed to be due that day! i have never ever seen a performer do that before. but she went all out on stage like she wasn't even carrying a full term baby in her belly. absolutely nuts! all these guys tore it up on stage, as expected. easily my fave of the evening. t.i. was his usual blazin hotness. and somebody please tell me what is going on with kanye's hair these days?!
adele
hands down, has one of the most amazing voices i've ever heard. i need to add her to my (ever growing) list of artists to see live
smokey/ne-yo/jamie foxx
say what? dude who wasn't on stage tonight?!! and they performed another oldie fave of mine, "i can't help myself"
neil diamond
you can't hate on the diamond and his sweet caroline. don't even front - you were singing along with him too weren't you. that makes three oldie but goodie songs tonight. first al green, then the four tops and we round things off with some neil diamond. heaven.
stevie wonder
i think there should be some kind of mandate on all major televised awards shows that stevie wonder is the only artist allowed to close out a show. period. done.

reunited! and it feels so good!

and now, a special message from blink 182.

*courtesy of blink182.com

re-live all the blink magic and get your fix of videos on imeem's dedicated playlist.

tom, mark, travis. bring it.

summer 2009 can't come soon enough people.

4 goals

i got 4 simple goals for the week.
hoping to accomplish these by next sunday.
and i'm hoping by posting these here i'll be a little more motivated to get it done.
you, my dear readers, will help keep me accountable for the things i say and do. :-)

1) catch up on all my blog posts
2) finish breaking dawn
3) catch up on gossip girl
4) catch up on one tree hill

i've said for the last month (or two.....or three) that i'd get these things done, but i keep putting them off and using work as my excuse. not that these are the most important things in the whole wide world to get done, but they're still things i keep saying i'll do but don't. and i'm trying to break that habit of mine - not following through.

work has calmed down a little, so i think i can do this.

wish me luck.  :-)

xoxo
and good night,

tgb

don't go anywhere.......

has it already been a week since my last post?

don't go anywhere. got lots of posts on the way. movies to review, concert to review, grammy recap, some fashion blips, a new botd, and much more!

but first, before i go.....

i have LOTS and LOTS more to say about that. but just wanted to make sure i threw that statement out there asap. i'm beyond ecstatic about this new reunion. the best music news of 2009 for sure, possibly ever!

viva la blink!!! summer 2009 can't come soon enough!

February 1, 2009

sunday funday

greetings!

sorry for the slow down in posts. the world seems to be moving at an exponentially fast rate these days. hello, it's february 1st today! where the hell did january go?

i'm behind in my work, my tv shows, my blog posts (i think there are like 5 posts sitting in draft form), my laundry, even twilight!!!!  i'm sure i've forgotten something in that list but of course i can't remember because my mind's always on a million things at once. so what the hell have i been doing? work work work. sleep sleep sleep. and then more work work work.

by the way, happy super bowl sunday! i guess i was rooting for the cardinals since that's who all the guys seemed to be rooting for at today's superbowl shindig (i think?  haha!), but really it didn't matter for me either way since i wasn't nearly as invested in this game as the others and hadn't been paying attention all season long. i was consumed more by the game of phase 10 going on at the dining room table with the gals!

funny thing is despite my complete and total ignorance of today's game and considering it was my first time ever playing this phase 10 card game, somehow i managed coming out a winner in both! this kind of stuff never happens to me! pd entered me in a pool right before kick off and managed to pick a winning sqaure for me! score! $15 bucks! then i was chilling in last place about mid way through our card game and then somehow i kept getting good hands and by the end, i threw down my last set of cards and i was deemed the winner! hooray!

so shout out to jefe for throwing a great super bowl bash and for pd for scoring me some lunch money for the week (err, make that day or so with my cafeteria's ridiculous prices!).

so how was your super bowl sunday?

boyfriend of the day, part II

another botd, this time courtesy of beyonce's latest video for her new single "halo".

ladies and gentlemen i present to you a brand spankin' new botd.......

michael ealy.

boyfriend of the day

if you've been watching mtv lately and seen all these promos for their new upcoming shows, then you've probably got an idea of who i'm about to say!

it's T.I.!!!! :-)
