i *heart* my blogging friends. actually i do *heart* all my friends, but at this particular moment the love goes out to my fellow music-loving blogstars - reeg, rols, and sb. fantastic posts my friends. i hope this isn't the last of our "homework assignments" because this was just good fun.
i love that we all have different tastes in music, but interestingly enough there were also some cross overs between our picks.
rols - thanks for reminding me about ryan leslie! that guy keeps falling off my radar. need to download more of his tracks.
reeg and rols - thanks for the heads up on the hip hop remixes out there. this is always the one avenue i don't get exposed to as often as i'd like. although maybe that's a good thing. one can only listen to and search out and discover so much music in a given day. i'm so downloading that t-pain/justin song when i get home! now that's a much better use of justin's vocals on a track.
reeg - will need to check out kidz in the hall, especially now that it's been given your coveted hip hop album of the year award.
sb - props on your nods out to twilight AND the hills. loves it! must listen to coldplay's album as you and reeg seem to have differing opinions on the disc!
okay seriously, now i'm walking out the door of the blogosphere.
see you in '09!

wow, this was longer than i expected too! ok, i think that covers everything. for now. until i go sit on a plane later today and realize i forgot a track. i'm throwing around the idea of a best in music videos post but that would require lots of youtube video watching, which i've been doing too much of lately thanks to our fave you-know-what books. :-) still up in the air, but you'll be the first to know if i get something in the works!
happy 2009 my dear friends! i'm off to vegas for a couple of days with the fam to celebrate my mom's 65th. no, she's not throwing a rager at pure (although she would win the best mom EVER award if she did that! haha!). we'll be off shopping, fine dining and taking in a couple of shows. and yes, little j is coming along too. hmm, wonder if i can sneak him into tao..........

Tiff's Tunes for 2008.
my turn!
heavy rotation
adele - 19
and i bet you didn't think i'd get this done in time! sorry i'm not gonna get a chance to get all multimedia on ya like rols and s did on their submissions. i'll just keep it simple yet descriptive and nostalgic, like le reegsta.
by the way, there's a chance there will be a part deux to this, just because there's always a lot to talk about when it comes to music (see my 30+ "music is my bf" tagged posts of the last 6 months). i've probably left out a song/artist or two in my haste to meet our pre-2009 deadline. so bear with me and stay tuned.
enough jibber jabber, let's jump right in it!
my top albums of the year, in no particular order. these were on constant rotation on my itunes and in my car. too bad my car stereo wasn't connected somehow to my itunes to provide a more accurate play count of these.
katy perry - one of the boys.
katy perry - one of the boys.
a surprisingly terrific pop album from someone i initially thought would just be a one hit wonder who liked to kiss girls. definitely a fresh, original voice to be reckoned with in the pop world (although she's still no match performance wise to our dear brit)
t.i. - paper trail
should be no surprise here. we got a bit of everything on this album. couple of radio hits, some harder tracks, some that make you go hmmm, lots of collabo's. and of course t.i.'s raw, nitty gritty ATL hotness all over the place. :-) noteworthy tracks will be included in the singles section, so patience.
adele - 19
technically i think this may have originally been released in the UK in late '07, but really it wasn't available to us americans until early '08. so still counts, yeah? and like rols mentioned, the mix tape is a definite must listen. adele just has a way of grabbing you with her voice, pulling you into her story and making you feel all the pain, heartache, love, happiness and everything in between with each song. listen to: hometown glory, make you feel my love, melt my heart to stone.
ne-yo - year of the gentleman
smoothest voice out of the artists on this list. also may be one of the best writers as he just has a knack for finding the right words to fit all his melodic hooks. it's no wonder everyone in the game goes to him to help take their song to the next level. a dash of ne-yo and hello radio time!
noteworthy tracks: so you can cry, mad, part of the list
santogold - santogold
i know i said i wouldn't rank these albums, but this is probably in my top 3 of the year. insanely infectious hook after hook after hook. a voice like no other. it's hard to classify what genre she falls in to, kind of the same way m.i.a. stands between genres, but that's precisely the appeal. first song i ever heard from her was "l.e.s. artistes" over on rcrdlbl.com and i can't fully describe how blown away i was by her style and versatility. other notables: shove it (w/ spank rock!! yes!), lights out, you'll find a way.
rihanna - good girl gone bad reloaded
this like half counts just because her album was originally released in mid-2007. but then when she re-released it in '08, she added a whole slew of other tracks, all of which became radio staples. when your re-release allows you to dish out a hit top 40 song every few months, i think you deserve some kudos, even if they're just halfsies.
vampire weekend - vampire weekend
duffy - rockferry
technically i don't own physical copies of these albums. these i listen to frequently online. i know it doesn't really matter how you listen to your fave albums of the year, but i do feel guilty not owning these in some shape or form considering i listen to them so much.
anyways, duffy. does anyone else find it interesting that some of the most soulful singers to come out in the last few years are a couple of white chicks from the UK? first adele, then duffy. actually, make that first joss stone, then amy winehouse then adele and then duffy. it's a trip.
vampire weekend. i don't even know how to classify these guys or who to compare to. white stripes, but peppier? they're just a really upbeat little band with a knack for keeping your toes tappin along to their songs.
okay so this turned out to be much longer than i had expected. :-) will hit ya again in a little bit with my list of top singles, along with some other stellar standouts of the year.

more love for the city
phewww, so i'm not the only one who's totally diggin mtv's the city!!
check out this great recap from the gals at nymag's the cut. so dead on with their synopsis, it's like they probed my little brain as i watched the show!
best excerpts:
"Whitney invites Jay, but he doesn't want to go because he doesn't like Olivia and her friends. Oh the uptown-downtown divide! Which will Whitney choose?! Her neatly pinned side braids say uptown, but her inner slut says downtown. We hope she chooses downtown and does all those things you're supposed to do when you first move here, like getting falling-down drunk every night, making out with random hotties until you catch a bad virus, and trying cocaine."
"Episode two opens when he invites Whitney to lunch, at which he wears the most obnoxious headgear fake hipsters ever discovered: a straw fisherman's hat. He tells her Jay is hooking up with his roommate's best friend, whom he used to date. Or something. We were distracted by his heinous hat and couldn't focus on the nonsense coming out of his mouth."
could not have said it better myself! brilliant!
also, do check out the fug girls' blog (no really, that's the name of these bloggers for ny mag, i wasn't referring to a girl from the show that i'm just calling fug!). anyway, they too are consumed by the show and even go on to dissect every last bit of the show's trailer.
okay fine, how about one more little read before you go. boy, ny mag hearts the city about as much as i do! here's their (unusually long) feature story on the show.
l'objet de mon affection
target does it again with another great collabo.

run from the hills.....
and into the city!
verdict? 4 outta 5 dvf dresses.
i know, kind of a high rating right? well that's just the preliminary verdict after 2 back to back eps. so far no one's annoying me, so that'll keep the rating up there. but if speidi somehow weasels their way in here by some wacko bolthouse x dvf function then it's an automatic 3 dress deduction. :-)
in no particular order, here are some of the reasons i shall be tuning in again next week:
- the hotspots and fashion of nyc. each episode's like its own mini where to go to eat, shop, and party guide! haha!
- a dvf fashion show and dresses to die for! wonder if little lc is plotting a way to crash whit's show and get hired on to the fashion house. she does after all like to ride on whit's coattails. hee hee, i'm such a hater.
- the battle between the uptown vs downtown gals for whitney's soul, errrr.......her screen time.
- strangely fascinated by olivia (yes, i too dream of being reincarnated into an uptown ny "social" who throws fabu dinner parties all over town). we'll see if olivia's really a wolf in blair waldorf's clothing. oooh, one can only hope and wish!
- jay as the new justin bobby. just with a much hotter accent.
and finally....
- 2 guys fighting over whitney right off the bat in her second ep! even lc coudn't score that kind of man drama! go whitney!

pieces of me
currently watching: gossip girl repeat episode, what else? it's 8:30pm on a monday night, what else would i be doing? :-) yay for new episodes starting next monday!
going to be watching tonight: the city and bromance. just because i'm curious. even though i know whitney can't bring on the dramz quite as well as lc/heidi can fabricate it. and even though bromance wins the douchiest looking tv show ever award. i'm still curious and still gonna tune in.
should be catching up on: one tree hill and grey's. since i'm going to vegas on wed and will be attempting to go standby on the flight before mine so i could travel with my fam, there's a chance i may be a sitting duck at the airport for a while. so i shall be downloading oth onto my mac just in case. also got my beloved twilight book with me, so i'll have plenty of entertainment ammo on hand. sidebar: i wasn't sure at the time i bought my ticket if i'd be able to get out of work early this wed and fly with my fam on the earlier flight, so i took a later one instead. but turns out my boss isn't the devil so i will actually be able to get out at a decent hour this wed! wahoo!
dude, where's my car? i've been running into this recurring problem where i'll forget whether i drove into the city or took bart to work in the morning. so today i left work and i'm waiting at the shuttle stop. right when the shuttle pulled up, i realized that i actually drove to work today. what the hell is wrong with my memory these days! i'm just glad i remembered at that very moment and didn't trek all the way to the daly city station and go wandering around the lot looking for my car. knowing me i probably would have reported it stolen! oh boy, the dangers of getting older. there go my marbles.
speaking of getting older, i've decided to title my 30th bash "my big fat 3-OHHH-shit-there-go-my-twenties" party. not sure what form said party will take just yet. and yeah i know it's not for another 7 (!!) months. but that's what i'll be calling it. so don't nobody steal it! :-)
does anyone remember what my 21st birthday party title was? that was the real inspiration behind the above but i can't even remember! best. house party. ever. even though my mom came home earlier than expected and fully caught me in the middle of taking a shot with the fellas. p.s. i distinctly remember wearing my lacrosse shorts and a jean jacket at the time, thanks to s, who somehow changed me out of the hawaiian sarong i was originally wearing and into that! oh the memories.
also did i ever mention the cotilion idea i had to celebrate the end of my twenties? i didn't have one for my 18th (another house party, but much more tame than the 21st bash) but for a moment i thought it would be HILARIOUS to throw a "my super sweet 30th cotilion ball". hahaha!! can you just imagine! at a hotel ballroom! 30 roses and 30 candles! a big fat cake and a big fat poofy dress to match! oh my. maybe i can even get mtv to film it! LOL.
wow this was the most random post ever!

vid of the day
tell me y'all have seen this snl video!! andy samberg is a comedy/music genius.
the vid concept and direction is so spot on with what's out there today when it comes to music videos. even the way this song is arranged is brilliant - the bridge at the 2:00 mark just took it to another level!
thanks to MR's friends for showing this off during their little post-holiday gathering.
bonus vid!
more from the song stylings of andy samberg (w/ a little help from adam levine). this is an older one, but still so good.

you know you love me. xoxo........
you know i'm talkin bout gossip girl!! finally caught up on my gg over the weekend and i need more! more! more!
i'm so proud of this little show. even in its second season, the writers haven't skipped a beat - the storylines and dialogue never disappoint. although i was a tad worried at the beginning of the season with the whole nate/duchess/blair/prince vs chuck storylines. but then the writers brilliantly took it another direction with the humphrey kids almost turning to the dark side - little j almost selling her soul to the fashion devil (agnes be thy name) and lonely boy almost exploiting the bart bass empire to further his writing aspirations (thankfully dan just exploited all of chuck's daddy issues to the big bass himself).
then just when i was really starting to loathe this whole nate hearts little j storyline, they nix it and bring nate back to who he was supposed to be with all along, vanessa! hooray! by the way, nate = manwhore. he's gone from serena/blair (slept with both circa season 1) to vanessa (didn't sleep with) to duchess (slept with for money!) to jenny (just a makeout sesh, thankfully) and back to vanessa (who he probably slept with in the limo on the way home from the snowflake ball seeing as how she was practically nekkid anyway in that sheer dress). at least chuck keeps it outside the friend circle, w/ the exception of blair of course.
speaking of which, somebody tell me why i was BALLIN during the last episode with all the back and forth between blair and chuck. daddy bass dies, chuck of course goes on a bender, blair reaches out to him to help and admits she loves him. chuck walks away and leaves her devastated, blair falls apart in front of her future step dad of all people (that's the part that really got me teary-eyed), then chuck comes back to her only to leave again the next morning! if it were any other pair, i'd probably think this storyline has dragged on too long, but considering the nature of both their characters, the back and forth actually makes sense.
what doesn't make sense? mr. pseudo-polygamist art boy + serena. let's get rid of him pronto, writers. s + lonely boy forever!
and to end things with a bang, we have the original s + lonely boy. their parents, rufus + lily. just when we thought the stars were aligned for these two, they encounter yet another road block when rufus asks the all-revealing 'was it a boy or a girl' question. omg!
p.s. best LOL moment of these last few episodes = dorota's ringtone. "i'm a slaaave, for you." oh my frikkin god, i just about died of laughter from that scene. perfection.
so are you just gagging from all this teen drama? or lovin it all like i am!
don't even get me started on the you-know-what books. i've been purposely sparing you all the details into that wicked obsession of mine. :-)
and since i'm still in teeny bopper mode as i continue to write this post, yes i did watch the hills season finale last night (even though i missed the last 5-6 eps leading up to it!). total dud. totally predictable. they gave everything away in the previews and lead up to the finale. i had the show on mute most of the time because i can't stand spencer's voice (p.s. do make sure you watch the soup - joel mchale loves ripping apart spencer and his flesh colored beard!). but i will say that brent bolthouse takes the prize with my fave moment of the episode. while at "work" heidi reveals that she got hitched in mexico over the weekend and the bolthouse's reaction? a pause........and then a "well, okay then.......". she was fishin for a congrats but you didn't take the bait, bolthouse! props.
okay, let's jump out of the teenage bubble now. in case i don't get to check in before the holidays, merry christmas and happy new year!
xoxo

then just when i was really starting to loathe this whole nate hearts little j storyline, they nix it and bring nate back to who he was supposed to be with all along, vanessa! hooray! by the way, nate = manwhore. he's gone from serena/blair (slept with both circa season 1) to vanessa (didn't sleep with) to duchess (slept with for money!) to jenny (just a makeout sesh, thankfully) and back to vanessa (who he probably slept with in the limo on the way home from the snowflake ball seeing as how she was practically nekkid anyway in that sheer dress). at least chuck keeps it outside the friend circle, w/ the exception of blair of course.
speaking of which, somebody tell me why i was BALLIN during the last episode with all the back and forth between blair and chuck. daddy bass dies, chuck of course goes on a bender, blair reaches out to him to help and admits she loves him. chuck walks away and leaves her devastated, blair falls apart in front of her future step dad of all people (that's the part that really got me teary-eyed), then chuck comes back to her only to leave again the next morning! if it were any other pair, i'd probably think this storyline has dragged on too long, but considering the nature of both their characters, the back and forth actually makes sense.
what doesn't make sense? mr. pseudo-polygamist art boy + serena. let's get rid of him pronto, writers. s + lonely boy forever!
and to end things with a bang, we have the original s + lonely boy. their parents, rufus + lily. just when we thought the stars were aligned for these two, they encounter yet another road block when rufus asks the all-revealing 'was it a boy or a girl' question. omg!
p.s. best LOL moment of these last few episodes = dorota's ringtone.
and since i'm still in teeny bopper mode as i continue to write this post, yes i did watch the hills season finale last night (even though i missed the last 5-6 eps leading up to it!). total dud. totally predictable. they gave everything away in the previews and lead up to the finale. i had the show on mute most of the time because i can't stand spencer's voice (p.s. do make sure you watch the soup - joel mchale loves ripping apart spencer and his flesh colored beard!). but i will say that brent bolthouse takes the prize with my fave moment of the episode. while at "work" heidi reveals that she got hitched in mexico over the weekend and the bolthouse's reaction? a pause........and then a "well, okay then.......". she was fishin for a congrats but you didn't take the bait, bolthouse! props.
okay, let's jump out of the teenage bubble now. in case i don't get to check in before the holidays, merry christmas and happy new year!

pieces of me
hi!
i work too much. got out at 9pm tonight! ughhhhh! should be going to bed right about now, but i'm blogging and in a short while i shall be reading you know what. :-)
seriously i have zero time to finish my christmas shopping!
christmas is frikkin next week?!!
thankfully next week's a short work week. but the time between now and then seems like forrrrever with all the crap i need to get done!
bought the common album. never opened the common album. lost the common album. ugh.
bought the britney album. obsessively listening to tracks 2 & 3. still haven't listened past track 9 or so. welcome back brit! april can't come soon enough!
still need: the killers, maroon 5, musiq (ahem, le reegsta!).
re-listening to jt's futuresex/lovesounds - was totally jammin to "chop me up" at work today, haha!
also been listening to a lot of koit-type artists on my itunes lately. some recent plays - a few selections from hall & oates greatest hits ("i can't go for that" = best h&o song EVER!), fleetwood mac's "dreams" and some van morrison)
i eat at mickey d's a little too much, more out of convenience than anything else. i know what i'll be giving up for lent this year!
wow, 2008's almost a wrap folks!
to resolute or not to resolute for 2009? is that the correct verb form of resolution because i totally just made that up.
did you know that gg's dan humphrey was in john tucker must die as the other tucker brother? yes, i was shocked as well, more by the nasty long curly coif he was sporting than the actual cameo.
i bought another m by mj bag this week. yes, i know i have a problem. i may or may not blog about it (the bag, not my shopping habit) in more detail. again, i don't wanna make any promises. :-)
and on that note, it's time for bed.
sorry for the jumbled, unorganized post. too lazy to bullet or gather my thoughts in a more cohesive manner. maybe next time.
or maybe not. :-)

wait a sec, before i go......
did i ever post this video or song?
jesse mccartney covering t-pain's "buy you a drank." i know, you're probably like, what? that's ridiculous. but it's not! it's pure pop brilliance! his voice just fits the song just right. and i totally can't remember if i ever posted this because it's kind of an old video and i remember thinking when i first heard this, omg i need to blog about this because it's so great! but i'm too lazy to search my archives to double check. so if this is a repeat, my bad. but if not, enjoy the oddly brilliant cover.
p.s. jesse still can't dance, but he sounds great. haha!
hi!
oops i did it again.
left yall hanging in between my blogging spells. truthfully, work really has been kicking my ass lately. too many things to do in a short amount of time, too few people to get all the work done. but i won't complain too long about my job. i need to keep reminding myself that i'm lucky to still have a job right now.
blogging isn't the only thing i'm behind in these days. my twilight reading has slowed over the last week or so (been stuck in the middle of book 3 for far too long), i'm behind on all my tv shows (namely gossip, oth, and grey's). and i've barely broken the ice when it comes to my christmas shopping! i think i'm still in denial that thanksgiving already passed and christmas is mere weeks away. seriously? i mean, seriously!!! it's already december!!!
oh i'm also behind in my music purchasing. albums on the radar that have already been released: britney, the killers. coming out this tue which i had ZERO idea about until le reegsta told me on fri night: maroon 5! seriously, how did i miss that one?
ok, time for me to hit the sheets. it's a been a long day today, which i may or may not tell you about soon. i'm not gonna make any promises on when i'll blog next, only because i can't seem to get a good rhythm going! i will tell you this - it involved twilight, roller coasters, hot chocolate and cupcakes, and a delivery of baked goods and lots of laughs.
xoxo
